Political discussions about everything

This article hits on something that I have been preaching for years; everyone cannot be an astrophysicist. Excellent wages and a lifetime of job satisfaction, with job security being a side benefit, can be had in many skilled trades. There is a perception among many that if you don't go to college you will never amount to anything. This from the article:
“Younger people are highly skilled in some areas – computer science, coding, technical skills – but deficient in practical, blue-collar skills such as welding or wiring,” he continued. “Right now in our economy, we have a glut of workers for management, liberal arts and computer skills but a shortage of workers for practical skills. Public schools and universities have not kept up when it comes to preparing students for a realistic place in the workforce. They’re not looking at supply and demand. There’s either a huge surplus or a huge shortage.”

Please note: Welding and wiring are used as examples; there are many skilled and semi-skilled trades that offer excellent wages and job satisfaction.

Public schools and universities have not kept up when it comes to preparing students for a realistic place in the workforce.
Public schools got out of the business of educating and preparing students for places in the workforce a long time ago, it's all about using them as digits to bring in cash to expand their unions and power over politicians.

When I went to school, typing, welding, electrical, auto, wood and metal shops were all "required" classes in high school of every male student. A high school graduate was prepared to at least having a working knowledge of the basic blue collar skills.

Now days most kids graduating from public high schools can't open a can without googling it. Our public school system is broken and corrupt.

Fast Track Bill Would Legitimize White House Secrecy and Clear the Way for Anti-User Trade Deals...

Following months of protest, Congress has finally put forth bicameral Fast Track legislation today to rush trade agreements like the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) through Congress. Sens. Orrin Hatch and Ron Wyden, and Rep. Paul Ryan, respectively, introduced the bill titled the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015. With Fast Track, lawmakers will be shirking their constitutional authority over trade policy, letting the White House and the U.S. Trade Representative pass Internet rules in back room meetings with corporate industry groups. If this passes, lawmakers would only have a small window of time to conduct hearings over trade provisions and give a yea-or-nay vote on ratification of the agreement without any ability to amend it before they bind the United States to its terms.....

Today, unions are bloated and corrupt.
I refuse to buy anything that says union built, it means it's over priced and built by people who don't give a shit about the product.

Tool refuses to buy anything that says union built.

He's revolted by the thought that somewhere someone is paid a living wage and he hates to be reminded of it.

Why pay an American family man to make something for you when you can get a 12 year old in India or slave labor in China to make it cheaper?

Scott Walker framed the argument about collective bargaining by claiming government union employees are the "haves" and the taxpayers are the "have-nots." I don't consider government workers to be the "haves" in society. According to Walker, collectively bargaining for an additional 5 or 10K in benefits is a "have" in society?

Walker couldn't beat the union(s) at the negotiation table, so he takes away the negotiation table. Ironically for Walker, busting down benefits for the working stiffs helped him keep his job as governor. But the conservatives in Wisconsin just cost him the white house...
