Obama repeated several times under no circumstances would there be boots on the ground in Iraq. Well there are 4,000 troops in Iraq wearing tennis shoes and US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter said today in Baghdad that more will be joining them. Carter also announced that Apache attack helicopters would be arriving with those troops to support them in the field.

I say give the troops in Iraq boots! Plus imagine trying to fly those Apache's in tennis shows, the controls weren't designed for them.

Some of the survivors of 9/11 victims are just out to make some (more) money off of the deaths. I could never understand why tax payers had to pay millions to each family of the 9/11 victims and now some of them want more by suing the Saudis. If they were calling for prosecution or sanctions I would be all for it, but it's about greed spurred on by lawyers who would end up getting the lion's share anyway. The fact that so many member of Congress are attorneys is the reason they're even trying to push the Bill to sue through.

September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. $7 billion was awarded to 97% of the families; the average payout was $1.8 million.

Kenneth Feinberg, the lawyer who was appointed as special master of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, told CNNMoney that the fund was "unique in American history," much like the attacks themselves.Feinberg believes that a fund of the type and magnitude of the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund will never be repeated.

"Bad things happen to good people every day in this country and it's not part of our heritage for the taxpayer to be an insurer," he said. "To give these people, on average, $2 million tax free flies in the face of American history."

The payment for death claims averaged $2,083,000 for families, while compensation for injury claims averaged $400,000.

The purpose of the September 11 fund was to compensate the family members of the 2,753 victims who were killed by al Qaeda terrorists who hijacked four commercial airliners and crashed three of them into World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The fourth plane went down in Pennsylvania when the victims rebelled against their captors.

"One of the controversial things that [the fund did] was tie compensation to incomes of those killed or seriously injured in the attacks," said Rand's Lloyd Dixon. "So some people received far more compensation than others."

The fund closed in 2003, but President Obama reactivated it earlier this year

Donald Migliori, a lawyer representing survivors who elected to sue the airlines, claimed the airlines should be held accountable for the security lapses that led to the attack, and that victims should also be compensated with money from the airlines. Migliori represented 56 of the 95 victims who settled with the airlines for a total of over $500 million.

Another $1.5 billion will be set up to cover future health costs, while $2.7 billion is set aside for payouts to people who suffered economic losses tied to a physical injury or the loss of a family member.

Contrast this to soldiers killed in combat. Families receive A "death gratuity" of $100,000 and up to $8,800 is available for burial. The government will also pay to transport the family and their belongings to the soldier's home of record. Service members may also take out additional affordable life insurance at their own costs up to $400,000.00.

The 9/11 families were well taken care of by our tax dollars for something we had no obligation to pay one cent for. They need to stop demanding more money, my compassion goes out to the family members of soldiers who are treated like shit, they should be the ones we're paying $2 million tax free, even that wouldn't be enough to compensate the family for their loved one who died fighting for us.

Passed by a Republican majority House, a Republican majority Senate, signed by a Republican President, and administered by Republican appointees.

Of course, RealTool heavily edited his article, giving the impression that Obama is responsible for all this.
What it actually said:

In other words, Obama wanted the first responders to get paid for their sacrifices after the Republicans shut them out.
This puts the lie to the reactionaries' phony claims that they respect first responder fire fighters, police, volunteer rescuers, and medical personnel. Dead soldiers are more valuable than dead police and dead firefighters and dead medical aid workers to RealTool.

Now let's watch RealTool deny this has anything to do with Republicans and that the payouts of this Republican program were are all Obama's fault. :lol:

The part about Democrats giving money to dead or injured first responders, which the Republicans didn't want to do, makes a lot more sense to me.

As to an appropriate amount to compensate the victims who died for us all? I don't know enough to make that call. That's above my pay grade.
It's also above yours. You just don't know it.

But remember, take away the multi-million dollar payouts to the rich guys the Republicans liked so much, then the average that upsets you so much would be a lot less than 1.8 mill..
