WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs doled out more than $142 million in bonuses to executives and employees for performance in 2014 even as scandals over veterans' health care and other issues racked the agency.
Among the recipients were claims processors in a Philadelphia benefits office that investigators dubbed the worst in the country last year. They received $300 to $900 each. Managers in Tomah, Wis., got $1,000 to $4,000, even though they oversaw the over-prescription of opiates to veterans – one of whom died.

The VA also rewarded executives who managed construction of a facility in Denver, a disastrous project years overdue and more than $1 billion over budget. They took home $4,000 to $8,000 each. And in St. ****, Minn., where an internal investigation report last year outlined mismanagement that led to mass resignations of health care providers, the chief of staff cited by investigators received a performance bonus of almost $4,000.
In other words from the VA, "Fuck you vets."

The VA says the bonuses are necessary to attract and keep talent.....

What a laugh! If this is the kind of "talent" they attract!

Why is it that military members and vets are the ONLY federal workers who can't go to any hospital for treatment? Instead they're treated like animals and often forced to wait months just to talk to a doctor, it's a disgrace. Vets should show up to emergency rooms of their choice and pretend they're here illegally with no identification, Obama law requires they then get treated right away, plus they won't be be sent a bill.

Sad but true if a Vet were to show up to none VA for treatment they would turn him or her away and no would have a problem with it. If that same Vet were to show up to same hospital and pretend to be an illegal and go turned away, everyone would be outraged. Things have to change dudes.

Maybe Trump is the only hope.

Kasich made a fool of himself saying millions of ILLEGALs are "law-abiding" when they get by daily by taking American jobs, cheating on their income tax, using document fraud, stealing SSNs, etc.

Sorry I didn't post the source of my quote...it was USAToday.com

Just thinking...Employers in the private sector must provide safe working environments and we have tons of rules dictating what is considered a safe working environment. Employers purchase costly Workers comp insurance to provide for the consequences of a worker injury or death. Employers who impede a worker's access to medical care or death from a workplace injury can face huge fines, jail time or both. Why should the US Government be allowed to circumvent the laws of the US?

I strongly disagree With Bernie Sanders but he made a wise statement yesterday, "If you don't want to provide for our veterans, don't send them to war."

America has not fought to win since 1944-45.

In regard to Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, what sacrifices were ordinary citizens asked to make? None.

America has not really tried to win a war since 1945.

If you limit a war, you limit your chance to win.

Your right John. My brother (30 year Marine) and I were talking about this a few months ago. I feel there is too much academics (running our wars by textbooks instead of experience) in our military today. Talk to any combat vet and he will fill your ear about the stupidity of the "rules of combat" that dictates how our wars are fought.

There are many more General officers (by percentage and by numbers) than at any time in our history. To save money the DOD has announced that 4300 Captains and Majors are going to be phased out (Sorry, I can't explain that one.) A four star General makes $179,900 per year. Now, (amazingly) that same officer with 38 years service can retire with a $219,600 a year pension due to a recent DOD change.

I often tell people not to listen to those retired Generals on the cable news programs; listen to the retired Captains, Majors and Colonels because they wouldn't put up with the politics and ass kissing it takes to become a General, they just did their job as they needed to.

BTW: During the Iraq war, a General won a Silver Star for directing the initial invasion of Iraq and the closest he got to the conflict was 900 miles.
