There have been 14 shootings in 24 hours in the Western District of Baltimore, many are asking why policing has declined. The police in Baltimore are now just doing as they're told, stay out of matters among blacks that don't concern them. It's comical that blacks are now outraged that police officers are now longer arresting black thugs, just for being a thug.
“We need the police to do their jobs,” said William Scipio. “No child should be afraid of coming outside to play.”
Scipio heads Sandtown’s Resident Action Committee. He has one way to restore trust.
“Before an officer gets a badge, a uniform or a shield, they should be required to do community service in a neighborhood they’re going to service,” he said.
There have been 51 shootings so far this year in the Western District alone, 19 of them murders—that’s dramatically outpacing all other districts and prior records. A surge of violence as swept parts of Baltimore while arrests have dropped by 60% in the last 30 days alone.
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake was unavailable to answer questions as she and a trio of Maryland lawmakers are at the White House meeting with senior administration officials in the aftermath of the violent protests that rocked her city.
Sens. Barbara Mikulski (D), Ben Cardin (D) and Rep. Elijah Cummings (D), who represents Baltimore, huddled with White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett and other top ranking officials to “discuss ways in which the administration can continue to serve as an active partner in supporting local priorities following the recent unrest in Baltimore,” the White House said in a statement. Valerie Jarrett promised the injustices suffered by blacks in cities like Ferguson and Baltimore are coming to an end.
