There is a great deal of superficial discussion about 2nd Amendment rights, A huge number of totally false claims by 2nd Amendment rights supporters including what the 2nd Amendment says of means and what "liberals" intend in regulating gun ownership. However lets cut through all the bullshit and get down to the two real issues that are the only real issues in this discussion.
1) The NRA supports the unlimited, unregulated, and unmonitored sale of all ballistic weapons to every person inside and outside the United States. It is their natural position as highly paid lobbyists for gun manufacturers.
2) There is a fringe element in this country that thinks they should have the right to own and use high powered, high capacity military weapons. They think they need this in order to overthrow the United States government and that this is a legitimate use of these high powered, high capacity military weapons and sanctioned by the 2nd Amendment. They feel that they need these weapons to correct the federal government and to force and enforce their own particular views on all Americans. That is get back to "real" America.
as a corollary, there is the slippery slope argument that any regulation will lead to confiscation by a dictatorial government of all ballistic weapons. An argument of the paranoid fringe reinforced by the NRA in support of their gun manufacturers desires for an unlimited and unregulated market for these dangerous products.
