I once read that Bill Gates suggested that all students learn how to write code. So what's more important? To teach kids something useful or to spend money on useless weapons systems that will never see the light of day, let alone combat.
Every weapons system developed for our country has been used, and the development of those technologies have always found uses in the Civilian world.
As for teaching our kids to code - WHY? I learned to program in the late 70's, got my first paying job in 78, and I made money for decades after that, writing code, but, once the Internet and other Communications methods improved to where we could easily transfer data around the globe, the companies started farming out coding jobs to countries that provided coders for 1/100th the cost of our US programmers. Even today coding outside the USA is significantly cheaper than coders inside the USA, so teaching coding to students, like most liberals failed ideas, is only setting students up for welfare and public assistance.
What you fail to see/understand is that spending MORE on education does not improve the actual education level of students, our system is broken because liberals have taken over, they strip any responsibility for teaching, they absolve the teachers of any need for teaching, they only seek to brainwash the children, they even make excuses for children needing different standards and lowering of the overall passing scores on standardized testing.
What we need is to remove the entire education system, create a new system that is based on rewarding actual proof of education, and to understand that some people will always be stupid, that some people will always be at the lowest end of the education level, that's what we have manual labor jobs for. Everyone is not created equal, they just start with an equal chance, what they can do with it, or what they are capable of doing with it is something else entirely.
So, we have investment in our Military that comes back in many ways - mostly in National Security, secondly in Civilian application of technologies, and importantly, in National Pride in the Country (that won't sit well with liberals). We also have a failed educational system, but liberals can only make suggestions that increase that failure.
