When my wife in I got married in 1982 we were poor and in 1984 when Reagan started the free phones we weren't able to get one even though we were married and had 2 kids we didn't have a phone for our first 3 years of marriage. We couldn't afford one. Now I could understand if there were a sick child in the home and they needed to be able to contact EMT but normal healthy people shouldn't be given free phone..

You gotta be kidding me.. You side with the G.O.P in wanting to cut medicare and Medicaid but you want everyone to have a phone. You'd end welfare but make sure all those women have a cell phone? You don't need a phone to live but you need food.. Give them food no phones.

Who said I or the GOP want to cut medicare or medicaid and end welfare? I do feel we have a high percentage of people who should not be receiving those benefits, but we have to reach out and do everything we can to help those who really do need it. To a truly needy handicapped, elderly person a phone is essential and we should be footing the bill for it. We should not be footing the bill for this person. This is the type person I and most other conservatives feel should have to work for their phones and taken off of welfare.

We agree on this point and also the other.. Sure for those who really need it and don't have the resources to be able to get it themselves.. But able body people shouldn't get them..

We agree on something Lumpster! I don't support giving a cell phone to a person just because they were able to get a handicap parking permit for their Corvette or Escalade but there are handicapped and elderly people who don't have the means to afford a phone. A phone affords them not only the means to call for help if they need it but also a means to reach out talk to friends and family which adds value to their quality of life. We should divert handouts from the lazy and insure the money reachs those who have a legitment need, as it is the lazy and greedy take money that could be helping those it was intended for.
