Six people were shot, one of whom died, on Saturday evening near a Juneteenth celebration at Oakland’s Lake Merritt.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported:






Oakland police received reports of shots fired in the 2200 block of Lakeshore Avenue at 6:22 p.m. Saturday, police said, just as roughly 1,000 people were celebrating around the lake.

The gunfire victims were five males aged 16 to 27, and one 21-year-old woman, police said.

The shooting sent hundreds of people running away from the scene. By 7:30 p.m., police had largely locked down the scene with police tape and the commotion had subsided.

Mayor Libby Schaaf condemned the shooting, saying that the “joyous occasion at our Lake Merritt was marred by a senseless act of gun violence.” Large crowds had spent the day in the area celebrating the first federally designated Juneteenth holiday.

Crime has skyrocketed in Oakland, as in other major cities, since the unrest that followed the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota — and the “defund the police” movement that has seen many police forces under new pressure.

“Through May 23,” the Chronicle reported on May 31, “the city had recorded 51 homicides for the year, a 132% increase compared with the same period last year and a 70% increase compared with 2019. San Francisco, across the Bay, will consider a proposal this week this week to lower police funding.

Look at the "abuse" with all the deaths caused from celebrating it with drunk driving and drunken spousal abuse.

And look at the "abuse" of Thanksgiving where people overeat and cause clogged arteries, heart disease, obesity, and football.

Obviously every holiday that can lead to abuse should be ridiculed and done away with. But johnforbes can only muster ridicule for the things he doesn't personally enjoy. He doesn't care that morons intentionally get drunk and fight on St. Patrick's Day because he is Irish, and hey, people are just people, right?

But establishing days to instill fresh racism in kids, that is a negative for American unity.

johnny, educating children to understand that America was founded and built upon slavery does not "instill racism".

It arms children AGAINST racist hate so that dishonest Republicans like you can't dupe them into thinking things like Affirmative Action aren't merely reverse racism and your teachings that America is all virtuous and without fault and doesn't ever demand self-examination, the way Republicans pretend as an excuse to do all sorts of evil in the name of Flag and Country. The truth can only set America free.

And now every year YOU will spend the day whining about how there is no racism in America and will be forced to face the sad reality of it at least for one day when you look in the mirror.

You don't even understand that the fact you hold disdain for one of the greatest events in American history (America on it's way to fulfilling the promises in the Preamble of the Constitution) only exposes your own sad denial and deeply buried racism. You can't even see it. But believe me, everyone else can.

Sure, you teach that slavery existed, but CRT preaches what Dems say -- that America today has systemic racism.

But the only systemic racism today is affirmative action (payback discrimination) against asians and whites, and that has endured for 50 years.

CRT has never been taught in grade schools and it will continue to not be taught there. And CRT has probably never been mentioned in most high schools. The professor who developed CRT doesn't even teach it to her undergrads in college. She only teaches it to grad students. But does that stop johnforbes from pissing himself over it and passing laws against its being taught in school to children? Of course not. These Republican farces are laws looking for a problem to solve. (And Republicans are always claiming to be the party of fewer laws and government restrictions of freedom.) (Meanwhile, johnforbes is always claiming that he is against censorship as he supports Republicans passing anti-CRT censorship laws.)

johnforbes had never even heard of CRT until his handlers stuck his nose into it in his morning slop a few weeks ago. He simply hates holidays that he doesn't have a personal stake in. And since he clearly doesn't celebrate the end of slavery in America, he hates the new Juneteenth holiday and is desperately looking for aplausible excuse to explain his racist dislike for it in social arguments. This one doesn't fly, johnny. It only makes you look ignorant.
