PITTSBURGH, PA - Despite President Donald Trump's assertions, his controversial tariffs have not enabled Pittsburgh-based US Steel to build a half-dozen new steel mills.

At a rally in Wilkes-Barre Thursday, Trump said US Steel is opening seven plants. A day earlier in Florida, the president told supporters the company is building six steel mills.

Not so, a US Steel spokeswoman told the Associated Press. While declining comment on the president's specific claim, Meghan Cox said any new mill announcement would be posted on the US Steel website if it happened.

In May, Jim Cramer of "Mad Money" said that Nucor would be most helped of the steel outfits by Trump's tariff talk.

So, that has not happened at least with Nucor.

Not that I'd let Cramer guide me, but his show can be entertaining.

So far, I see nothing particularly good in the way Nucor's stock has reacted to this supposedly positive news for it.

Elkin, you didn't read my post.

My ownership of the stock is for reasons beyond my control, and it wouldn't have been my choice.

For me, it is an overly domestic play, and I don't know anything about the steel business, and -- well, there are a lot of reasons I'd prefer not to own it.

It also has the bad feature of the lost opportunity to own something else.

On the plus side, it is only 2000 shares and no big deal.
