In 2011, Merkel unilaterally decided to shut down Germany’s non-polluting nuclear plants, now the country has unreliable sun and wind and relies on renewables. Germany now imports American coal, has higher emissions and nearly 200 percent increases in energy rates. The one positive is that since Meckel's decision to shut down the nuclear plants, her net worth has grown from $1.4 million to over $130 million.
