The Air Force plan announced Friday to recall 1,000 pilots from retirement could hurt smaller airlines in the competition to hire trained crews to fly their planes.

"We anticipate that the Secretary of Defense will delegate the authority to the Secretary of the Air Force to recall up to 1,000 retired pilots for up to 3 years," the Pentagon said in a statement.

I don't understand this. I know for a fact that we are aggressively training new pilots on the latest technology. It would seem to me that it would be costly to bring retired pilots up to speed on the latest technology and tactics.

BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. — The U.S. Air Force is preparing to put nuclear-armed bombers back on 24-hour ready alert, a status not seen since the Cold War ended in 1991.

That means the long-dormant concrete pads at the ends of this base’s 11,000-foot runway — dubbed the “Christmas tree” for their angular markings — could once again find several B-52s parked on them, laden with nuclear weapons and set to take off at a moment’s notice.

“This is yet one more step in ensuring that we’re prepared,” Gen. David Goldfein, Air Force chief of staff, said in an interview during his six-day tour of Barksdale and other U.S. Air Force bases that support the nuclear mission. “I look at it more as not planning for any specific event, but more for the reality of the global situation we find ourselves in and how we ensure we’re prepared going forward.”

A "conservative" lining up bombers is no more a solution than that which the "liberal" didn't have.
Simply doing "something" or "anything" at any cost is not necessarily better than doing "nothing".

Diplomacy and playing games with the Kims for decades has so far avoided WWIII. Why would anyone think that dropping nuclear bombs is somehow preferable to continuing to dance with a "nut"?

You're jumping to the non sequitur assumption that "knocking off" Kim will actually be a "solution" of some sort instead of just the beginning of something far worse.
Have you learned nothing from the fiascos of Iraq and Libya? Do you really think making 25 million people leaderless is going to improve things? And why do you assume the guy who rises up to take his place won't be worse?

Clown, when I asked what the answer would be, the intent of that was to get opinions as to what the answer would be.

I really don't know what should be done about North Korea, although allowing some nut to threaten the U.S. doesn't seem acceptable to me.
