Former CIA Deputy Director quits Harvard role in protest at Chelsea Manning's appointment

Former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell has resigned from Harvard over the school’s appointment of Chelsea Manning as a visting fellow.

Mr Morell is a Senior Fellow at the Belfer Centre for Science and International Affairs at the university.

In a resignation letter obtained by CBS News, Mr Morell wrote that he “fully support[s] Ms Manning’s rights as a transgender American, including the right to serve our country in the US military”.

However, he could not “be part of an organisation - The Kennedy School - that honours a convicted felon and a leaker of classified information.”

Ms Manning, formerly known as Bradley Manning, was a US Army soldier who was convicted by court-martial in July 2013 after she leaked almost 750,000 military and diplomatic documents to the website Wikileaks that contained classified or sensitive information.

She began hormone therapy and transitioning while serving her 35-year confinement sentence.

Harvard degrees have just been put on par with Nobel Peace Prizes, at one time they both really meant something. I'm sure Yale will appreciate Harvard's move with Manning, they'll be receiving a lot more highly qualified applicants that would have applied for Harvard. :lol:

Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government rescinded a visiting fellowship offered to Chelsea Manning, the former military intelligence analyst who spent seven years in prison for leaking classified government secrets, after the university faced forceful backlash from CIA Director Mike Pompeo among others.

Pompeo’s blustery withdrawal from Thursday’s event joined a chorus of denunciation from national security experts, military veterans and others who said they will have no further interaction with Harvard. Numerous Alum have said they will stop future donations to Harvard as result of their actions to present such an honor to Manning.

Earlier Thursday, in a stern letter of his own, Michael Morell, a former CIA leader who spent more than three decades at the agency, resigned from Harvard’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. He had been a fellow there since September 2013. The school’s invitation to Manning, Morell said, all but endorsed her decision to break the law.

“I have an obligation to my conscience — and I believe to the country — to stand up against any efforts to justify *** of sensitive national security information,” wrote Morell, 59, who twice served as the CIA’s acting director and retired in 2013 as the agency’s second-in-command.

Pompeo praised Morell’s decision to resign, writing in his letter that Harvard “traded a respected individual who served his country with dignity for one who served it with disgrace.”

Harvard made a stupid libtard feel good move to appease progressives without thinking of the consequences of honoring a convicted felon who leaked our military's top secrets and put our military members at risk and resulting in several people who were covertly working with us to get killed. What glowing teachings could high school graduate Manning bring to Harvard's business school? It was stupid and it cost Harvard in the pocket book where it hurt.

Harvard is trying to put the rabbit back in the hat but they've exposed themselves for the type of school they really are. Even with Harvard education is now about turning out like minded liberal graduates, it's no longer about teaching courses.

I would be really upset if I had paid for a Harvard education only to have it watered down by their actions to appease the left. So you have a Harvard degree :lol: :lol: :lol:
