Scientists announced Wednesday that a much anticipated break at the Larsen C ice shelf in Antarctica has occurred, unleashing a massive iceberg that is more than 2,200 square miles in area and weighs a trillion tons.

In other words, the iceberg — among the largest in recorded history to splinter off the Antarctic — is close to the size of Delaware and consists of almost four times as much ice as the fast melting island of Greenland loses in a year. It is expected to be given the name “A68” soon, scientists said.

“Its volume is twice that of Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes,” wrote researchers with Project MIDAS, a research group at Swansea and Aberystwyth Universities in Wales that has been monitoring the situation closely by satellite.

The break was detected by one NASA satellite, Aqua MODIS, and confirmed by a second, they said. The European Space Agency has also confirmed the break.

"WHAT global warming?"

The good news is that the ice on Greenland is above sea level, whereas this ice is mostly below sea level already, so it won't raise the global sea level by much when it melts.

This might be a good opportunity for some of the Middle Eastern countries to set up mining operations to break off smaller bergs to drag home to process for drinking water.

First of all, Greenland is called green land, not ice land.

Secondly, it is great when any ice there happens to melt.

Quod erat demonstrandum.

First of all, johnforbes is called dim wit, not bright wit.

Secondly, it would be great if he would actually be funny some time.

Quod erat scrotum.

We're all gonna die, we're all gonna die!

Quick, raise every tax imaginable and invent new ones!
Enable government regulation on everything!
Surrender all your rights and freedoms!

Oh the humanity ladies and gentlemen!

For alll of those climate deniers out there:

a. 97% of climate scientists agree that global warming is real and that man is the cause of it.

b. Of the other 3%, probably many are leaning toward supporting the global warming theory but want a bit more evidence.

c. Of the other 3%, probably some truly aren't sure but agree that man might be the cause of global warming.

d. Some of the 3% might believe man is the cause of global warming but, since their livelihood depends on fossil fuels, they throw doubt on the theory.

e. Some are paid by the Kock brothers. DON'T MESS WITH THE MONEY.

Of course, a lot of scientists accept global warming.

Or pretend to.

They had to adopt that posture, under Obama's reign, to gain access to federal money.

Bullshit!

We can all agree the climate changes, always has and always will. Look at all the money and effort put in the Paris climate accord and the climate still changes. No matter what man does, the climate will change.

WOW an iceberg cracked, proof positive man is killing the planet.
