The media are so blinded by their hate they can't see the trap laid out right in front of them.

And then, "Tapes? What tapes? Who said there were tapes?"
gambit was classic. It had the media foaming at the mouth over the prospect of Nixon style altered or erased tapes. And total rage and disbelief when they realize they'd been superbly had.
