Republican Ron Estes will be the next congressman from the state of Kansas. Upset over Trump’s victory, grassroots Democrats enlisted in nationwide efforts to win Kansas spending over $111 million and thousands of volunteers putting in countless hours. The GOP win was a stunning upset since polls had indicated that Democrat James Thompson, a civil rights attorney was up by 9 points the day before the election. Estes prevailed with 53 percent to Thompson’s 46 percent.
