WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump, who made a fortune in real estate before running for political office, has decided to donate his first-quarter salary of $78,333 to the National Park Service, the White House announced on Monday.

During the presidential campaign, Trump said he would donate his $400,000 annual salary if he were elected.

"That's no big deal for me," he told a town-hall style meeting in September 2015.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, whose agency oversees the 100-year-old protector of 417 national parks, monuments and other sites, said he was "thrilled" at Trump's decision.

"We are going to dedicate and put it against the infrastructure on our nation's battlefields," Zinke said, appearing alongside White House spokesman Sean Spicer at a daily briefing. "We are about $229 million behind in deferred maintenance on our battlefields alone," Zinke said.

Well Obama only paid his mother-in-law $140K a year as a special assistant at the White House, when exposed it was pointed out that she actually is there 24-7 and on call at all times, so should be making more. The media agreed, what a great President Obama was for being thrifty on her salary.

Trump donates his whole salary and silence from the mainstream media.

sillydummy, where Yahoo.com sourced its story is irrelevant to the point. They reported it.

You pretended the mainstream media wouldn't report it. They did, which means your statement is just plain stupid.
But thanks for acknowledging that NPR is a valid news source. Your pals will shit bricks, but show courage in the face of their slings and arrows.

Oh, he donates far more than I do to charity.

One real shame of this whole political thing is that Eric Trump had to suspend his own charity which raises money for St Jude's down in Tennessee.

Hopefully, people on this forum could agree that donating to a place like that (which I do myself) is a good step.

"Back in April, [Washington Post's] Fahrenthold and Rosalind S. Helderman reported that they couldn’t find a single cash donation to charity that Trump personally had made over the previous five years. The Trump campaign had provided the newspaper with a list of donations made by the candidate, but many turned out to be gifts-in-kind from Trump’s businesses, such as free rounds of golf at Trump courses donated to charity auctions, and land-conservation agreements to forgo development rights on Trump-owned properties. The only cash donations were from the Donald J. Trump Foundation, the family charity that Trump established in 1988. But the Post also pointed out that Trump hadn’t given any of his own money to the Trump Foundation since 2008—almost all of its funding came from other people, including some of his business associates."-New Yorker

Yeah, johnny, Donald Trump is a peach.

Duhhhh! All federal money comes from other people, so the salary money Trump donated came from us before it came from him. Trump knows that, that's the reason he donating the money, finally a politician not sucking us dry.

Well, you are taking it wrongly then.

You have no idea, from my tax filings or anybody else's, what their real charitable impulses are.

One of the most charitable people in Hollywood history was a famous singer with a reputation of having a tough, nasty aspect to his personality.

To a charity, he was "Mr Anonymous."
