Trump got nominated in July, and in that same month the FBI began its investigation of possible Russian influence on elections.

Was this entire investigation just a pretext to surveil, and stop, Trump's run for the presidency?

There is no doubt that is what happened. When that failed, on his last day in office changed the intel's rules on sharing wiretap information so that it could be used to undermine the new President. Obama used government agencies for his personal agenda up until his last day in office. There has to be accountability.

Tony Podesta, brother of the guy running Hillary's campaign, got $170,000 lobbying for Russia.

Hillary arranged a uranium deal with Russia, and in return Bill got large speaking fees.

To refresh Elkin's failing memory, Hillary was a candidate for president last year.

As to the Russia nonsense, Louise Mensch has developed a reputation among Clinton partisans as a constant purveyor of Russian election interference allegations and conspiracy theories. Like several Clinton partisans, her Twitter feed is completely focused on the anti-Russia narrative.

It was apparently her crap which got the July inquiry started, and the inquiry seemed to function as a cover to surveil Trump and try to prevent him from winning.
