I watch the members posting half-truths and falsehoods on this board and then chastising others for not believing as they do. I watch members posting in support of the candidates for the highest office in the world and then try to make those who do not agree with their views appear as idiots. These two candidates are people you wouldn't even invite into your home. These two people have the power to wipe out life on earth with the push of a button. These two people, through their policies, have the power to create chaos in the world. There is very little real debate going on and what debate there is is fraught with downright falsehoods or half-truths or flawed opinions.
We have many hard problems in this country that need to be worked on now. We have a real need for leaders who will work for solutions that benefit all not just the lobbyists and those who will contribute to the campaign funds. My blood still boils when I think about the government grant of $179,000 to a scientist to determine if glaciers are sexist. Wha!!!!!
If you're looking for problems to discuss, here are a few"
a. World population. Presently there are are over 7 billion people on this blue marble. It took 16 centuries for the world's population to double. In 1950 the population of the world was about 2.525 trillion, 66 years later the population is in excess of 7 trillion. Increases in food production are lagging increases in population growth by a significant number and many "agricultural advances" are later found to cause sickness and death or environmental concerns. Add to this the growing problem of potable water in the world and the problem gets worse. To add to the problem, some of the world's countries are experiencing population declines, particularly the younger people of working age.. Solution...give the people incentives to have more children.
b. Climate change. There are many who still deny climate change despite evidence. The "oil Gods" knew in 1968 that burning fossil fuels causes climate change. But, the dollar ruled and the study was kept secret. We are finding that our present idiocy will cause problems for centuries to come even if we solve pollution today. (https://www.theguardian.com/environment ... re_btn_tw/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) Then there's the impact of our actions to the earth. California is sinking due to the pumping of oil and water from the aquifer. Then there's this from Texas. (http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local/ ... 313203.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). How about earthquakes caused by fracking. (http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local/ ... 313203.php(" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
c. Wealth inequality. 20 of America's richest people have more money than the bottom 152 million people. (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/americ ... 2015-12-02" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) How long do we expect these 152 million people to sit by and accept poverty? And then we hear that many of the 20 hid wealth overseas to amass even more wealth. Remember The Panama Papers? Why has that story dies out so quick?
These are just a few of our problems that we should be discussing. I could go on...infrastructure, building efficiency, medical costs, education, retraining, etc.
