BERLIN (AP) — Actor George Clooney says he will be meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss the situation in Syria, which has contributed to the surge in refugees coming to Europe over the past year.

Clooney told reporters at the Berlin Film Festival on Thursday that the movie industry is sometimes slow to react to events in the news.

Italia's Minister of Economic development, Federica Guiditalia wasn't amused with George Clooney's bashing of Europe's unacceptable housing conditions of refugees. During a press conference on the subject she explained that the biggest critics of Italy have been the super wealthy who own large vacation villas that go unoccupied most of the year. She called on them to do more than just complain, she called on them to open up their vacation villas to refugee families, especially Clooney's $100 million Lake Como villa which could easily house 5 families. She called on them put up or shut up.
