You almost certainly associate Tesla with cars — very cool cars — but the company has an even grander vision beyond that. Today, CEO and founder Elon Musk unveiled ‘Tesla Energy’ — a new business arm that is focused on ending our dependence on grid power and switching instead to solar energy.

The first Tesla Energy product is ‘Powerwall Home Battery,’ a stationary battery that can power a household without requiring the grid. The battery is rechargeable lithium-ion — it uses Tesla’s existing battery tech — and can be fixed to a wall, removing much of the existing complexity around using a local power source.

Apparently it wasn't just empty talk when Elon Musk and his cousin Lyndon Rive, CEO of SolarCity, said that "within 10 years, every SolarCity system will come with batteries from Tesla's Gigafactory". Tesla's new Powerwall home battery has barely been announced that SolarCity is already saying that it will offer it as part of its 'turnkey' system, along with solar panels and control systems.

In a blog post, Peter Rive, SolarCity's CTO, reiterated the vision that storage would soon become a default component of his systems: "Using Tesla’s suite of batteries for homes and businesses, SolarCity’s fully-installed battery and solar system costs are one-third of what they were a year ago. We expect costs to continue to decline as manufacturing scales, and over the next 5-10 years, these cost reductions will make it feasible to deploy a battery by default with all of our solar power systems."

It's barely been a week since Tesla unveiled its Powerwall energy system, which scales from residential houses to massive gigawatt-hour utility scale. Not enough time for much to happen, right? Well, apparently people have been waiting for something like this and there's a lot of pent up demand. On its earnings conference call, Elon Musk mentioned that they already received 38,000 reservations (the Powerwall will start shipping this summer) for the home system and 2,500 reservations for the much bigger, commercial-scale battery systems. That's a lot in less than a week (more reservations have no doubt come in since the Tesla call on May 6)!

Elon Musk sucked Obama's little pecker, and ended up screwing the Space Coast, and all the companies that literally put a man on the moon, the Space Shuttle in orbit, the Hubble Telescope in existence, the history of USA space flight and exploration....all of it.

Musk on Obama's dick, and somehow an untried, unproven startup company gets all the contracts.

So, if in the event a Merlin 1D engine, used on the Falcon 9 SpaceX rocket explodes, guess what they call it?

They call it an RUD.....rapid unplanned disassembly....That is hilarious. What a maroon....as Bugs used to say.
