Political discussions about everything

When you’re scientifically literate, the world looks different to you. It’s a particular way of questioning what you see and hear. When empowered by this state of mind, objective realities matter. These are the truths of the world that exist outside of whatever your belief system tells you.

One objective reality is that our government doesn’t work, not because we have dysfunctional politicians, but because we have dysfunctional voters. As a scientist and educator, my goal, then, is not to become President and lead a dysfunctional electorate, but to enlighten the electorate so they might choose the right leaders in the first place.

Neil deGrasse Tyson

Very wise words. Now it's time for Justme to start his rant about Obama.

Our educators should concentrate on teaching the subjects they're paid to teach and leave their voting bias out of the classroom, they have no business enlightening our children on how "they feel" they should vote.

"...they have no business enlightening our children on how "they feel" they should vote."

Of course, Tyson said no such thing about teaching how "they feel" someone should vote.
"they feel" is found nowhere in Tyson's quotation.

It's just more of the stupid shit The Tool makes up to cause trouble where his betters are talking intelligently.

Clown you can't ignore his words, words have meaning.
...to enlighten the electorate so they might choose the right leaders in the first place.
He has no business trying to "enlighten" children on who they should vote for.

That's one you'll have to take to your ESL teacher, Tool.
I can't be expected to teach you EVERYTHING.

That sentence does not say what you think it says.
But one thing is for sure, it absolutely DOESN'T say, or even imply, "they feel" anywhere.

You need to go look up "enlighten" before you go throwing it around lightly.
To "enlighten" is not the reactionary brainwashing you're used to.

If you read a history of science, one of the most interesting things is the extent to which scientific theory rests upon belief just like every other theory.

Look, for example, at The Structure of Scientific Revolutions.

Even the history of science suggests people should proceed slowly and with skepticism, and this is even more true when a non-scientist like fat Al Gore urges some agenda for political reasons and to make himself money.

Notice the date....... he makes this statement well into Obama first term.....addressed at gullible poorly educated racist black voters who voted into office the most unqualified candidate in the history of this Nation....
simply because he con them into thinking he is American and all black.

What is it with you pea brains?

Just because Tyson said it during Obama's tenure does not mean he was specifically talking about Obama or those who voted for him.
He's talking about the entire system and what it has been like for decades.
He addressed it to everyone, dimwit, not just your personal boogeyman.
He addressed it just as much to you racist white voters.

Drag your lazy-assed brain out of the slop trough and think for once in your life.
When someone makes a nonpartisan comment you don't need to immediately drag your petty partisanship into the discussion.
It only demonstrates your inability to discuss an idea intelligently.

Clown you've out done yourself with that statement. That's like Sharpton saying those cracker police are racist.

Tool, now you need to look up "partisan".

There is nothing partisan about my post.
If you could read English, you would know this already.

There is nothing partisan about my post.
Clown you demonstrate the difference between a conservative and a liberal. As a conservative I know damn well that my posts are partisan, I'm proud of my conservative values therefor I'm not ashamed to admit I express conservative stances on subjects. You on the other hand as a liberal pretend your posts aren't partisan and that you speak for everyone, we all know that's bullshit.

Soooo man up Clown, grow a set of balls and own your stances and partisan posts. Don't be ashamed to admit you express partisan liberal views, don't be such a limp dick ;)

I see, so you obviously couldn't find anything partisan about my post, Tool.
Or de Grasse Tyson's quote either, for that matter.

So you're saying, as a conservative, that our government DOES work and it's just fine as it is?
You disagree with Tyson on this?

Clown...... It's quite obvious Tyson is talking about Obama, his Presidency, and the voters that put him there.

There's a problem when the scientific consensus has come to the conclusion that human activity is at least partially attributed to global warming. Then you have conservatives come along, with no evidence to the contrary, claiming that human activity is not attributed to global warming. And when conservatives believe admittedly ignorant politicians who outright admit that they are not scientists, well at that point you can't fix stupid, especially when the scientists know more than the politicians.

That is probably one of the reasons that prompted Tyson to say that he was around to 'enlighten' the electorate. And obviously the electorate is not 'enlightened' when a certain ideological faction believes that global warming is not attributed to human activity. In total defiance of the CO2, temperature, and ice pack satellite imagery readings.

silly, read what Tyson said: "One objective reality is that our government doesn’t work, not because we have dysfunctional politicians, but because we have dysfunctional voters."

It's quite obvious that he WASN'T just blaming Obama and his Presidency.
First of all, he uses the plural (politicians) not the singular, which tells us he's talking about more than one politician.
But most of all, he says it's not the politicians per se, and thus he couldn't be talking about blaming just Obama.
He's talking about the bigger picture, which is not a partisan issue. It's an issue for everyone.

Are you really going to claim Tyson supports the 60% of conservative voters who deny evolution or the 80% who deny climate change? You think he doesn't believe they also have something to do with our government not working?
If so, you're living in your own delusional lala land.

You clowns really need to learn to read English.
There's no reasonable interpretation of what Tyson said that can be read to mean he's specifically blaming Obama and Obama voters for the fact that our government doesn't work.

Bobby Jindal has a degree in biology and questions the validity of evolution?

That's a really pathetic way to pander to the ignorant electorate. And it's an insult to the intelligence of Christians who teach the theory of evolution in Catholic school.

The bible teaches the relation that God has with people. Science teaches the physical laws of the universe.

Both fields of study are mutually independent. It's insulting when people want to teach 'intelligent design' as some type of Trojan horse for religion?

Clown biology is the science concerned with the study of life and living organisms and with a degree in that field it gives him some solid creds for talking on the subject, what did you think biology was?

Clown.....Tyson was being diplomatic in his statement.......
had he said politician(singular), he may as well have said the name Obama.
By using the plural he was being kind.

#57056
Criminy, sillydaddy, what part of "...not because we have dysfunctional politicians, but because we have dysfunctional voters." makes you think he is talking about one particular politician and not voters in general?

Had he said "politician" it would have made it even LESS about Obama and clearly about voters.
Try it:
'...not because we have a dysfunctional politician, but because we have dysfunctional voters.' (Makes little sense)
or:
"...not because we have a dysfunctional President, but because we have dysfunctional voters."

I expect this sort of foolishness from RealTool, but I thought English was your native language.

Gee, Clown you're being especially dense on this one. You have a teacher saying we have dysfunctional voters so we end up with the loser politicians we currently have so his solution is to enlighten the electorate while they're young so they choose who their programmed (enlightened) to choose.

Tyson said that educators will 'enlighten' the electorate, but he never said how.

I presume that intelligent design will not be a part of the typical public school curriculum...

Tool, what do you hope to gain by convincing your fellow reactionaries that I am elklindo?

He knows absolutely that I am not him.
I know absolutely that I am not him.
You know absolutely that you are Alogicalman.
So who is being fooled? Not us three.

That leaves only your fellow reactionary morons.
What do you gain by having them believe that?

What is my supposed motivation for posting as three names that are all 'liberals'?
Look at you and your socks.
You pretend to be liberal as Freedman and Alogicalman and say extremely stupid shit that actual liberals would never say.
Your motivation is to feed and fulfill the worst dimwitted stereotypes of your fellow conservatives to make liberals look like fools, thus making reactionaries appear more reasonable.

But why would I post as Freedman or Alogicalman to try to make my own perspective look stupid?
There's nothing for me to gain from it.
And why would I post as elklindo, another liberal?
Now if I were posting as an idiot reactionary, then I would have a motive; to make reactionaries look even stupider than they quite cheerfully present themselves to be.
But I have no need of conservative socks because I couldn't possibly make conservatives look any more stupid than you and your pals already do.

"Tyson says he's an agnostic.
That means he believes in God......but doesn't like to attend church."-sillydaddy

You know, that would be worth a chuckle if you were joking.
But you actually believe it to be true, which is just pathetic.

You clowns honestly can't conceive of a mindset that isn't neurotic.
Neurosis is your constant and natural state, always worrying about some boogeyman in the sky who's watching you masturbate and is going to send you to hell for it.
You can't conceive of anyone not loathing themselves the way you do.
But try.

An agnostic is someone who doesn't waste their time on the unknowable; a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God because he just doesn't give a shit about ridiculous fairy stories any longer. Would you waste your life devoting it to Zeus or Odin or Dennis the Menace?
Of course not. That would be stupid.

But you spend your lives vehemently professing another silly myth that is equally stupid.
Pay heed to your own silly book that tells you, when you grow up, it's time to put away childish things.
Life is too short and precious to waste on such nonsense.

An agnostic is someone who doesn't either believe or disbelieve, because the existence of God cannot be either proven or disproven, that is, using current scientific methods.

Climate change denying conservatives can learn from Tyson and Sagan. The consensus view through the scientific process is that humans are at least partially attributing to global warming. Conservatives claim humans are not responsible for global warming, but they have no alternative hypothesis to counter the consensus view. Unless they are conservatives who are financed by the fossil fuel industry, McConnell et al.

No Elkindoofus, you are, as usual, wrong again. Some things never change. Conservatives believe that for as long as the planet has existed, the climate has been changing. 40 years ago climate change hysterics where running around, waving their hands in the air and loudly proclaiming the impending ice age. That should have killed everyone a few years ago.
But they were wrong then, and they, and you, are wrong now.
Climate change has been thoroughly debunked, so much so that the terminology has evolved from global warming, to climate change, to the latest; climate variation. If you can't sell it because the facts and evidence don't support your hysteria, change the label.
The scientists like Sagen and Tyson always proclaim themselves the smartest and most enlightened people around. That is, until the latest bit of information comes along and proves they are full of shit. Then they change positions and once again try to sell themselves as the only ones who have the down low. At one point the smartest and most enlightened people insisted the Earth was the center of the universe, and to question the prevailing wisdom got your head chopped off. Now they just want you to give up your lifestyle, eat tofu, freeze in the winter, roast in the summer, walk or take public transportation anywhere you go, and hand over all your cash to support their research into whatever cause is popular in the moment.
Question everything.
