sillydoofus, you're missing the point, as always.

The purpose of the battery is not to "make money" or even to have it pay for itself before it needs replacement.
That's just a side benefit that brings the cost down.

The purpose is to have back-up power for emergencies or to allow you to live off the grid.

A gas generator doesn't "pay for itself" at all before it needs replacing. You need to travel to get fuel. It isn't silent. It needs annual maintenance. And it can be messy.
Apparently you never sat through a winter evening listening to a generator and the neighbors or your wife bitching about the noise.

Is it perfect? I doubt it.
But leave it to a reactionary clown to just pooh-pooh a concept before he knows anything about it.

Do you know what it's like to hear every five minutes "daddy when will lights go on." For three freaking nights?

It sucks waiting at a gas station for hours to fill up a gas can to power a generator that will only run for a day or two at the most. And that was to pretty much used to power the refrigerator and lights at a minimum. Fortunately for us, we have a natural gas powered water heater and the stove runs on nat gas.

Me and the wife have been seriously considering solar panels. There are two houses on my street that have panels installed.
