Conservatives are all about appearances over substance.
They don't care if W. didn't bother to show up as long as he was in uniform.
Hypocrisy is fine because appearance is what matters. Do what you want, but be sure you appear to be adhering to social norms.

And Reagan was making movies during his time in the service. Impressive.
But he was wearing a uniform while he did it, so he's a war hero to them.
