"The basic premise of liberal support for affirmative action is the racist notion that a minority cannot compete."-johnforbes
This is exactly the opposite of the truth, and johnny knows it.
The basic premise of liberal support for affirmative action is that minorities absolutely CAN compete if given the opportunity.
What they can't compete with is 400 years of white wealth and privilege.
What they can't do is graduate from Harvard if they can't get into Harvard.
What they can't do is compete with white upper middle class prep schools when their parents could only send their children to public schools that johnforbes would never allow his children to attend.
Johnforbes finds it perfectly fair to have a "level playing field" since he is on of those with a 10,000 meter head start in the race.
He's been looking over his shoulder his entire life despising those who can't catch up on their own, when the oil, railroads, steel plants, airlines, auto manufactories, aircraft manufactories, chemical companies, food conglomerates, banking, pharmaceutical companies, natural resources, and on and on are already in the hands of old white people.
Even the tech-boom areas can't be broken into seriously since it depends upon having a first rate education which johnforbes sneeringly begrudges to those not born with a silver ramrod up their asses.
(Now johnforbes will come back explaing how being born into a white family with a 1000 acre ranch and a good white public school didn't mean a thing. He will insist it is comparable to being born into Selma or Birmingham while wearing black skin, and that he would still be where he is today in spite of it.)
