A President's day is scheduled down to the minute. You don't get an open-ended meeting with the President. You get "two minutes" or "ten minutes" with the President.
The President doesn't get a stack of mail on his desk in the morning that he thumbs through and writes notes about.
He's briefed by staff about what they see as important for the day.
He never saw the wedding invitation. It didn't get out of the mail room. He never wrote a thank you note to the couple to decline. His staff does that.
A random wedding somewhere doesn't even make it into a President's awareness because it can't get past the barrier of his Chief of Staff, if it even gets that far.
But when a President learns of this sort of thing, he may opt to acknowledge it, as Obama had the decency to do.
