ISIS_These guys are smart. We had better watch these guys.
LONDON — ISIS is planning to mint its own currency, the Islamist terror group said in a statement. The gold, silver and copper coins will be issued to replace the "oppressive monetary system imposed on Muslims that led to their enslavement and the wasting of the wealth of the nation," said the statement, which was verified by NBC News counterterrorism consultancy Flashpoint Intelligence. ISIS declared the establishment of a caliphate— or Islamic state — after overrunning huge chunks of Iraq and Syria. The group also has imposed its own laws and claimed the Syrian city of Raqqa for its capital.

The statement said ISIS's leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, had instructed a "monetary court" to issue the currency based on the price of gold and silver. Having its own coins was another "pillar of what he sees as the Islamic State," said Laith Alkhouri, director of Middle East and North Africa research for Flashpoint Intelligence. The announcement was accompanied by an audio statement from al-Baghdadi calling on supporters to "erupt volcanoes of jihad."

This is a brilliant move. If you think that our currency is better, go down to Washington with a bunch of our dollars and tell them you want to trade them in for whatever is backing the dollars.

Note: Please don't be offended when they laugh at you.

I wonder why they think as such:

"oppressive monetary system imposed on Muslims that led to their enslavement and the wasting of the wealth of the nation," .

I would think that any monies received from the sale of the natural resource was received by their leaders, and stolen, mis-used, or otherwise mis-appropriated for the benefit of the corrupt leaders...i.e. Saddam, the sheiks, etc.

The lands used to be rock, sand desert and camels....now look at the tourist resorts and wealth that has developed.
But, only for the few. And that is a result of theft of the monies.

I guess my question would be....why blame the West for theft by their own leaders?
And why not blame China? They are a huge customer too.....

I don't understand their thinking.

China is now making extensive investments in Africa.

Look for China, in this century, to utilize Africa as its natural resource.

^^^^^Huh?

China? Africa? Natural resources?

And that has... WHAT, exactly, to do with ISIS, the Middle East, or metal-backed money?

Take your medications, johnfarrago.
You're babbling and drooling again.

For a long time now Putin has tried and failed to replace the US Dollar with the Ruble as the currency of choice in the oil industry. ISIS will do no better.

Before the 20th century, the value of money was tied to gold. Banks that lent money were constrained by the amount of their gold reserves. The Bretton Woods Agreement of 1944 established a system of exchange rates that allowed governments to sell their gold to the U.S. Treasury. But in 1971, U.S. President Richard Nixon took the country off the gold standard, which formally ended the linkage between the world's major currencies and gold.

"A half ounce ISIS gold coin is worth $600.00 any where in the world."-RealGullible

No, it isn't.

The only way someone will pay $600 for a half ounce ISIS coin is if they trust the gold content of the coin.
The West won't accept them widely without ongoing assurances of their content, which means they aren't liquid enough for real investors. How far would you trust the assurances of a radical authoritarian group, Tool?
Put it this way, if you have a choice between an ISIS coin or a gold Eagle, which will you (or anyone else) buy?

The only reason I would buy even one coin would be as a curiosity to add to my collection of curiosities.

RealTool, and his like-minded buddies around the world, will probably buy boat loads of them and help finance radical terrorism.

George Washington did not actually have wooden teeth, but Clowngummer does.

Anybody who bites down on one of Clownhacker's posts in search of veracity will find no gold.

The clown returns to me for more kicking. I said a "gold coin" was worth that amount, think about that before you stick your foot in your mouth again. ;)

Advertisements for ISIS gold coins are all over Fox. Someone said they can't keep up with demand and Fox viewers are crashing the ISIS website and overloading their 800 number with orders. Someone else said the most popular coin shows a masked guy beheading you-know-who in front of the White (peoples) House.

JustFreedManMe? We know you're a gold guy. So the question isn't IF you've purchased those particular coins, but rather how many?

Once again, Forbes cannot disguise nor contain his interest in another man's "physical condition."

Everything he does is based on that, probably in the hopes of getting pictures.

If nothing else, you're reliably, turgidly, tumescently creepy, Forbes.

Zero, I would never support ISIS, because their face value is more than the weight of the coin. To me the value of their gold coins are just their value in weight which I would buy if I could get at that price because it would bite into their budget. They can't produce and distribute gold coins at only the metal's value without losing money.

 Even Forbes isn't going to believe that horseshit, JustFreedManMe.

You, like other other members of KKK-lite, aka "The Tea Party," in low intelligence conservative misbelief have dug up your backyard staches.

You've undoubtedly already cashed in your Krugerrands (counterfeit and otherwise) to buy ISIS coins from Glenn Beck's Priceline and directly from Fox.

Forbes thinks you're going to finally pay him for "services rendered," but...
