Oklahoma has passed a bill allowing utilities to tack fees on solar installations and standby generators. Just think, finally, a tax on the Sun! It seems that Orwell's "1984" was just the tip of the ice berg. What;s next, a tax on the air that you breathe?

Note From Utilities: Don't fuck with our Sun or you pay.

In 1965, disgusted by what he viewed as confiscatory taxation by the British authorities -- a supertax instituted by the Labor government was taking 95 percent of top earners' income -- George Harrison wrote a bitter song from the perspective of a maniacal tax collector:

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.

But even Harrison's "Taxman" never conceived of a levy on the weather, something currently being instituted in Maryland.

Some background: The Chesapeake Bay faces a serious pollution problem. The Environmental Protection Agency decreed in 2010 that Maryland had to stop so much stormwater runoff from draining into the Bay, a project that would cost $14.8 billion. To pay for that, authorities decided to tax "impervious surfaces" -- in the words of The Gazette, "anything that prevents rainwater from seeping into the earth (roofs, driveways, patios, sidewalks, etc.) thereby causing stormwater runoff."

John-I live in The Socialist Republic of Maryland. You are right in your observations. Don't look for much improvement to the bay as O'Malley (shudder, shudder) took the Chesapeake Bay fund to bakance the budget. He also took the state pension fund and the transportation fund to balance the budget. Watch how we have to raise taxes now to pay the state empluees pensions.

Why don't all of you come to Maryland and get a slice of this welfare pie? It's free and easy and we won't check on you to see how you are spending that money.

Note: I live 12 miles outside of the Baltimore City line. I haven't been inside the city limits in over 10 years (I guess it's still there.)

You do understand that the coal burning utilities lobbied the politicians and got them to pass a bill that will benefit the utilities not the consumers???

Leftist kids like Elkin don't read print newspapers, nor do they read anything much.

Instead, like Elkin, they get their faux "news" from Huff Post.

On the comments about Maryland:

BGE built Calvert Cliffs nuke plant and Maryland allowed rate increases to pay for it as well as huge tax breaks for BGE (the old Baltimore Gas & Electric.) BGE is now out of the electric generating business, becoming only a supplyer of electricity generated by others. 25% of BGE is owned by Warren Buffett. A couple of years ago BGE sold Calvert Cliffs Nuke plant to a French company for $1.00. The Maryland citizens fucked again! BTW, there was no out cry from the citizens or the politicians.

Note: Along time ago Baltimore had a mayor named Thomas De Allessandro Jr. He was kicked out of office for shady dealing with parking lot owners. years later his son, Thomas De Allessandro III, became mayor. III spent much of his time playing golf on "company" time. Thomas Jr. was the father of Nancy Pelosi and III was her brother.
