If we pull our troops out of Iraq to early, a vacuum will be created and we will have to go back and fight a more dangerous enemy
Obama fucked us and tonight he kicked the can down the road in his meaningless speech.

It wasn't pretty, but by the end Bush Jr. had Iraq relatively stable and the "war" there essentially won.

Obama didn't leave a stabilizer force behind and we saw the same thing we saw when a stabilizing force left SE Asia long ago.

Power abhors a vacuum, and bad people flow into a place like SE Asia in the late 1970s and Iraq after we left.

Bush in 2007 delivered eerily accurate warning about Iraq unrest. A prophetic warning from then-President George W. Bush before he left office about what would happen if the U.S. withdrew troops from Iraq too soon is getting new attention in light of the Islamic State’s gains, as each of his predictions appears to be coming true.

“To begin withdrawing before our commanders tell us we are ready would be dangerous for Iraq, for the region and for the United States,” Bush cautioned.

He then ticked off a string of predictions about what would happen if the U.S. left too early.

“It would mean surrendering the future of Iraq to Al Qaeda.

“It would mean that we’d be risking mass killings on a horrific scale.

“It would mean we allow the terrorists to establish a safe haven in Iraq to replace the one they lost in Afghanistan.

“It would mean we’d be increasing the probability that American troops would have to return at some later date to confront an enemy that is even more dangerous.”

Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen says all these predictions have come true.

“Every single thing that President Bush said there in that statement is happening today,”

To Bush’s first warning, the Islamic State terror group is effectively the successor to Al Qaeda in Iraq – and they’ve overrun several major cities in Iraq’s north while claiming broad swaths of territory in Syria. Further, the group has been behind mass killings of Iraqi civilians as well as the recent execution by beheading of two American journalists.

The Obama administration has warned that the group’s violence threatens to approach genocide levels.

Though President Obama says combat troops will not be returning to fight in Iraq, American troops are nevertheless returning in some capacity. The president on Wednesday announced an expanded airstrike campaign against the group in Iraq and Syria, and is sending hundreds more U.S. military personnel into Iraq.

Some lawmakers and analysts say this could have been avoided if the Obama administration had left a residual force in Iraq, or at least had responded sooner to ISIS’ gains in northern Iraq over the past year.

Bush, before he left office, signed an agreement setting the stage for U.S. troops to withdraw by December 2011.

Obama, though, was urged by military advisers to keep thousands of service members after that deadline to help the shaky Iraqi government. But when Washington and Baghdad were unable to reach a renewed agreement governing the presence of U.S. forces in the country, the Obama administration withdrew virtually all troops at the end of 2011.

“We needed to leave a stabilizing force behind, and we didn't. And of course, we know the rest is history,” Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., told Fox News.

Anybody else notice that once again, ElkinDoofis totally missed the point?
And that W was right on the money with his prediction of what would happen.

The left ridicules and demonizes W for being a total idiot.
Then the elect their Messiah, The Dear Leader B. Hussein M'bongo and he creates exactly what W predicted.

As Homer Simpson once famously said, "Who's stupid now?"

Have Hillary and Obama been correct about anything?

Obama laughed at Romney for naming Russia as a prime geopolitical threat. Romney was correct, and so was Palin.

Obama said he wanted to not do "stupid stuff." But leaving Iraq, as Obama did, created the very mess we see today.

I know how Iraq vets must be feeling right now because I remember how it felt to flip on a TV in 1975 and watch refugees flood down Highway One in Vietnam.

Iraq vets watched as everything they fought for was given away by dumb politicians.

We've been over this numerous times, Forbes (almost as many times as you've cruised about dressed as various members of the Village people.

Romney didn't say Russia was a prime geopolitical threat, he said Russia was the prime geopolitical threat to the U.S. While that's unfathomably nuanced for conservatives, it's a striking difference for anyone that's managed to complete the the ninth grade (which necessarily excludes 99.9999% of all conservatives).

Now, don't you have some butched-up cotillion to attend, Forbes? Perhaps a gaily swirling soirée in a circular reading room with endless glory hole Republican registration and voting booths attended to by the likes of Mark Foley and Larry Craig?

" But leaving Iraq, as Obama did, created the very mess we see today."-johnforbes

What a convenient PARTISAN memory johnny has.
The correct comment would be: "But invading Iraq through deceit and for personal motives, as H.W. and W. Bush did, created the very mess we see today."

But admitting that would require an honesty that partisan johnny lacks in spades.

I realize that most of you tools don't know a thing about how H.W. Bush took us into Iraq in the first place.
He set Saddam up, giving Saddam (through Ambassador Glaspie) permission to invade and take Kuwait, then pretended that Saddam was going to threaten Saudi Arabia next as the pretext for invasion.

Notice that neither of the two leading Useful Idiots addresses the point that W was right on the money with his predictions about what would happen if we left with the job unfinished?

Of course Lucky can be excused due to cognitive deterioration due to excessive, long term drug use and Grog, being a foreigner has no say in anything.

Bush signed off on an agreement with the Iraqi government for ALL troops to leave Iraq.

If he thought security was such an issue then why didn't he leave a residual UNITED STATES security force in place???

Malcom, can you locate a video of the July 25, 1990 meeting between Hussein and Glaspie?

I watched it on the network news, perhaps a Sunday news talk show, shortly after the meeting took place, but I haven't been able to find a video of the meeting.
I personally heard her tell Saddam the U.S. had "no opinion on your Arab-Arab conflicts such as your dispute with Kuwait" when Saddam told her he would take Kuwait if there was no diplomatic settlement.
My jaw fell open. I couldn't believe it.

Here's another transcript account with British journalist followup questions for Glaspie: http://www.globalresearch.ca/gulf-war-d ... spie/31145

Elk, it odd that you're trying to give credit to Bush for withdrawing our military from Iraq but if you read Article 27 of the document you attached it talks of maintaining US Forces in strategic numbers to keep from happening what Obama has allowed to happen by removing Article 27 and removing those strategic troops. Obama owns it.

Really?

The document was signed on Nov 17, 2008.

Obama didn't start his first term until 2009...

Exactly my point, Article 27 was Bush's plan for keeping enough military presence in Iraq to insure what is happening now wouldn't happen. Obama can't blame Bush for his mistake of ignoring Article 27 and taking them all out.

Yes, Obama pulled out troops to be in compliance with the treaty signed by Bush?

Or did the original treaty indicate to leave a residual force, meaning that Obama would be in violation of the treaty?

Bush Jr could have -- and should have -- controlled the border after 9/11.

And he spent too much.

His mistakes paved the way for the total disaster of the Obama presidency, which is rapidly ruining what is left of this once-great country.
