U.S. Watches As Iraq Speeds Toward Disaster. Fighters for the al Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) took Mosul today, giving the militant group control of Iraq’s second largest city and setting the country on a path toward chaos.

ISIS militants already control Fallujah, a city that American Marines took in 2004 in what was the bloodiest battle of the Iraq War. Now, with both Mosul and Fallujah under their control, nearly half of Iraq is in the grips of a group that is a formal affiliate of a terrorist group.

As well as Mosul and Tikrit, several other northern towns were reported to have fallen to the spectacular offensive by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

A woman in Baghdad said: 'People are buying up food and leaving the city because they think the situation is going get worse as the militants approach. Military members in Bagdad are throwing down their weapons and shedding their uniforms as 1,000s who helped the United States are being beheaded'

(Isis) has become the richest terror group ever after looting 500 billion Iraqi dinars - the equivalent of $429m (£256m) - from Mosul's central bank, according to the regional governor.

Nineveh governor Atheel al-Nujaifi confirmed Kurdish televison reports that Isis militants had stolen millions from numerous banks across Mosul. A large quantity of gold bullion is also believed to have been stolen.
Good going Obama!

You're missing the point, johnny.

We couldn't stay forever, even if you want to. This was always going to happen once W. took out the only guy strong enough to keep the radicals out.
I knew this from day one.
Why didn't you?

Instead, you want to blame Obama for the inevitable results of W's snafu.

Obama is the first President in history to lose a war that was won. It's obvious to anyone who's been paying attention Obama has been doing everything he can to strengthen Muslim terrorist organizations, when Obama came into office they were defeated then he breathed new life into them. Obama's latest act of releasing 5 top terrorist leaders sent a clear message to them...don't give up, keep fighting. We see the result, Iraq is falling to terrorist to be followed by the whole Middle East, mission accomplished by Obama.

We couldn't stay forever, even if you want to. ~~ clown
We have done it in Japan and Germany.
GW set a plan for withdrawal....but once Obama became president it became his plan, his responsibility, to follow or change. He chose to keep the plan and withdraw.....knowing full well Iraq was not ready. Yes, it's Obama's fault.

I remember being on guard duty at 0200 and looking down the bore of a Russian tank cannon. It isn't a matter of liking the situation, but of doing it.

That's how these things work. The US kept a force in Germany for decades, and Japan, and Italy, etc.

The US, as a world power, kept a power projection location in Spain, the UK, Turkey, and all over the place.

Obviously, Obama either lost -- or has almost lost -- Iraq because of his failure to know the basics.

Q: Just very quickly, do you wish you had left a residual force in Iraq? Any regrets about that decision in 2011?

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, keep in mind that wasn’t a decision made by me. That was a decision made by the Iraqi government. We offered a modest residual force to help continue to train and advise Iraqi security forces. We had a core requirement, which we were require in any situation where we have U.S. troops overseas, and that is -- is that they are provided immunity at the -- since they are being invited by the sovereign government there, so that if, for example, they end up acting in self-defense if they are attacked and find themselves in a tough situation, that they’re not somehow hauled before a foreign court. That’s a core requirement that we have for U.S. troop presence anywhere.

The Iraqi government and Prime Minister Maliki declined to provide us that immunity. And so -- I think it is important, though, to recognize that despite that decision, that we have continued to provide them with very intensive advice and support and have continued throughout this process over the last five years to not only offer them our assistance militarily, but we’ve also continued to urge the kinds of political compromises that we think are ultimately necessary in order for them to have a functioning multi-sectarian democracy inside the country.
Bull shit! Not only was it Obama's decision...it was one of his campaign promises.

What a liar!!!
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's 2008 campaign promises for ending the Iraq War included: "I will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. I will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our troops out of Iraq within 16 months. That will happen, you can bank on it! "
