It’s rare in politics that anything other than a presidential contest is viewed as a “must win” — but the special election in Florida’s 13th District falls into that category for Democrats.

A loss in the competitive March 11 contest would almost certainly be regarded by dispassionate observers as a sign that President Barack Obama could constitute an albatross around the neck of his party’s nominees in November. And that could make it more difficult for Democratic candidates, campaign committees and interest groups to raise money and energize the grass roots. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee cannot afford to lose it. Those are two very different perspectives that reflect the relative importance of this election to the two parties. Never before has the committee put more money or time into insuring a Democrat wins this very important election. A loss would be a clear warning sign to Senate Democrats, whose majority is threatened thanks to a Republican-friendly map and a national environment that's tilted in the GOP's favor
Hahahahahaha, the Republican won. ;)
Despite recruiting favored candidate Alex Sink, outspending Republicans, and utilizing turnout tools to help motivate reliable voters, Democrats still lost to Republican lobbyist David Jolly—and it wasn't particularly close.Jolly's surprising victory is merely the latest indicator of 2014 shaping up to be a favorable Republican year. Senate Democrats were already facing a difficult map, but Tuesday's results suggest it's also going to be a difficult environment, too.

At a Democratic fundraiser last night in New York City, President Obama said, "I hope you will all step up because, although I'm very optimistic about our long-term trends, the notion that we would waste two years in further inaction rather than move boldly on a path that I think all of us in this room agree on -- we don't have time to waste, Democrats across the country need your financial support more so now than ever."
Obama knows he's a lame duck after this year's elections. ;)

Not a senate election.....
Was a house race. Tighten it up.
I agree I should have said "Senate Democrats lose must win House election". This defeat has sent shock waves through out Senate Democrats who now know Obamacare that they forced through without one Senate Republican vote is going to bite them in this year's election, they own it.

Hey, it was close in the highly Republican weighted special.

Wait until the general. Then, it looks much better for the Dem.

All that matters is that a good candidate gets into Congress. That's a difficult standard for any politician, nearly impossible with today's crop of Republicans because of the primary process.

It's time for open primaries, so that the people may get a choice. Every candidate from every party should be primaried by every registered voter.

Well, a "good candidate" is subjective.

Bilbo, you've often made very, very politically biased comments, so you clearly define a good candidate as a member of the Left.

But the Left, and its fellow Obama, has planted the U.S. 17 trillion in debt, and Obama's foreign "policy" is a global joke.

"But the Left, and its fellow Obama, has planted the U.S. 17 trillion in debt..."-johnforbes

johnforbes is still trotting out that old canard about the left causing the debt when all he needs to do is look at the debt under Republican Presidents compared to Democrat Presidents. All the Republican supposedly "fiscal hawks" are the worst abusers.

I would give him a link but johnny is willfully ignorant and would refuse to click on it to educate himself.
