A few years ago I advised him to get rid of the metal steering wheel he has on his Mustang because if he's ever in an accident that thing will crush his chest, but Dammad being Dammad said no way, it looks cool.

He's a car guy for sure. I remember him saying he stabbed and HEI into a SB Ford. That's bad ass.

I'm not in the car biz anymore since my accident, but I'm still building. I'm waiting for some weather to break to take a cruise in my '23 with a flattie and a mini blower. I have a '50 Olds project in the shop right now, flat black with minitubs, and an x1 6x2 on a SBC with an L60 and 64 Olds rear. It's a Vortec that I just did a ghetto grind on. I'm running the trans off of a stock PCM using a TPS on one carb and a tach signal from the distributor. Fuck their thousand dollar controller.

And no more street racing. The B68 is for sale.

You have a 'Cuda right?

Excellent memory, yep a purple 70 AAR 340ci with a six-pack, 4 speed 3.91:1 gears. Recently painted the hood matte black for a new look.

Yeah, the 340 is a breather, the only fault is those three deuces are hard to keep in tune, always making some type of adjustments, beginning to think I might have a vacuum problem, just can't locate it.

You shouldn't have to be playing with those carbs too much. Do you think you may have a vacuum leak? Have you put a gauge on it? I hunt for a vaccuum leak with a lit cigarette or some starting fluid. Open the valve on a little propane torch and let it leak around the intake and carbs. She will pick up quick at the slightest leak. Does she stumble or have a flat spot? Remember a bog or stumble is a lean condition, usually during circuit transition. (accelerator pump shot adjustment/volume/ diaphragm) Are they the factory carbs? Is it the right "center" carb?
The 340 outboard carbs will have a distribution tab on the passenger side booster. This was done to help equalize fuel/air distribution on the small block intake
Maybe it's not the carbs at all. Have you put a timing light on it? Does it advance properly? All in by 3 grand?

Fuel pressure gauge? Float levels? Are the valve springs worn out? Pull a valve cover and watch every rocker. Put a dial gauge on every valve, hi performance cams go flat too. Put the palm of your hand lightly over each carb one at a time. If the idle picks up, that's your leak.

Sorry, I'm a little obsessed. Just trying to help.

I've tried most of your recommendations (good ones by the way), I don't think it's the cam or valves because adjusting the carbs brings it back smooth, what I'm getting is as you described a stumble that comes and goes. The carbs are factory and it's the right center carb, had them rebuilt about 5 years ago. Could be a diaphragm going bad?

Right after having the carbs rebuilt I had a similar stumble but quickly determined it was a vacuum leak from a carburetor gasket that some how got damaged when we put the carbs back on.

It's garaged until the weather gets better, I let you know what it turns out to be, right now don't have time to work on it, plus the garage is just to damn cold this time of year.
