PAY OR ELSE! Time to get the NAZI unions out of our schools, for them it's all about money.
A Utah school lunch controversy erupted this week when an elementary school in Salt Lake City confiscated and threw away lunches for 30 kids whose parents had unpaid meal bills.

The incident happened at Uintah Elementary School after a nutrition manager showed up early in the week and determined that several students had negative balances on the accounts used to pay for lunches prepared by the school. The manager and another school employee called parents on Monday to recoup some of the payments, but on Tuesday students who still owed money got in line and ordered lunches.

The Utah school found these students and took their lunch trays, throwing the food into garbage cans and leaving the children with only milk and fruit.

Why are you upset that they acted like good Republicans?
You're sick of these freeloading children of Democrats getting a free ride on the taxpayers' dime, right?

Of course, this has nothing to do with unions, but RealTool will try desperately to get us to think it does.
But it IS surprising to see you support a free lunch program.
Your handlers aren't going to like that.

The Demonrat scum are always going on about how Republicans want to starve children, throw old people out into the street, blah blah blah. Here we see the true nature of Demonrat scum at work. Nothing happens at a public indoctrination center without the approval of the NEA (Not Educating Anybody).
Compassionate, caring Demonrats? Hardly.

This school is clearly showing compassionate conservative family values: The kids and their parents need to take personal responsibility for their own meals. Liberals would have let them have the food instead of throwing it in the garbage. By throwing the food out in front of the hungry kids, this was an effective demonstration of the conservative belief and practice that there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Grog's post above is a good illustration of how dumbed down political discussion has become.

Want a rational, legal immigration system which helps make the country strong rather than weak? Then you are a racist.

Dissent from any of Obama's socialist policy initiatives? Then you are a racist.

Don't like 17.3 trillion in debt? Then you hate kids and old people. Plus you are a racist.

The sad thing is that such idiotic substitutes for rational discussion got Obama elected twice.

Calm down, Forbes. Supra your supra per contra, don't be upset that I correctly identified a conservative practice in action. Don't run from your cherished conservative principles of self-reliance and personal responsibility. Instead, send the cafeteria lady a note of support. I mean, if these kids were too poor to pay their bills, they were clearly not Republicans and as such would vote Democrat when they got old enough. Dumping their food in the garbage tells them they better get jobs and now if they want to eat.

Grog, read the post again, this was a public school not a private school. Wasting money is a liberal trait, throwing perfectly good food in the trash to prove a point is worth it, after all it was bought with free money.

Most of us are aware that it's a public school.

Just as some of us aware that it's a public school in Utah.

And some of us are aware that Utah is one of the reddest (most conservative) of red states.

Thus you calling throwing the lunches of hungry little kids in the garbage by a Utah government employee a "Nazi tactic" is spot on.

You finally got one correct.

Public schools are run by unions in every State, the State just picks up part of the bill. Only a public school doesn't care about waste because the incoming money is free and endless, plus there are no performance expectations.

Is that what they tell you on faux news?

Here in NYC area they are shutting down schools because of a lack of funding.
The parents are complaining about the school closings not the teachers.

Faux news drivel debunked....

Your Mayor just bent over for the teacher union and gave teacher 3 more vacation days a year, two of them Muslim holidays. Teachers in New York are now officially off more days than they work a year while only spending 3 hours a day in the classroom supervising their teacher's aides.

Washington State just tried to top that for the teacher's union, the State just passed the requirement that the minimum starting salary for a teacher with a Bachelor's degree but no experience is $53,600.00 a year. They are still negotiating what the starting salary will be for those with a Master degree or teaching experience. They also want more days off, smaller class sizes and at least one full time salaried teacher's aid for each teacher, plus 80% of their top salary for life after 25 years of teaching and better job protection rights. All this for a part time job that has more days off than worked.

If anyone is shutting down public schools it's the greed of the teacher's union.

The Christians and Jews get their holidays, so what's the issue with the Muslims having theirs?

BTW, for all of the work teachers do, a salary of 53K is peanuts, regardless of what faux news tells you...

Please tell us how many hours a year current teachers work. Hint, it works out to over $70.00 an hour at a 53K salary.

RealTool has the idea that teachers only work during school hours.

He also ignores the required and ongoing training and educational expenses that he, being ignorant and uneducated, doesn't have to worry about.
He also ignores the personal money teachers put toward classroom supplies and the extra tutoring time for those students who need it.

And believe me, RealTool, $70 an hour does not compensate anyone for dealing with your arrogant brat in a classroom nor with you at the parent/teacher conferences.

Are you still living in the 90's?

It is against their union contract to work on school projects outside of school hours unless they receive additional compensation. It is against their union contract to spend their own funds for school projects. It is against their union contract to tutor students without additional compensation. If the unions allowed that schools would need less teachers and less funding, unions will allow teachers to get away with a lot of things, but none of the above are tolerated. In our State it is against union contract to spend more than 3 hours a day in a Classroom teaching.

The key phrase is, ".. additional compensation..". The teacher's union gets a cut of every dollar the teachers make. They don't want teachers using their own funds on school projects because the union has no control over those funds. The union deducts their dues from a teacher's paycheck before any other deductions.

He actually expects people to believe him on that one
Do you really think today's teachers are in the Classrooms teaching all day? Classes start at 8am, you have your recesses, lunch and then at 2:30 kids are out the door. The kids will rotate through an average of four classes during that period, they don't stay with the same teacher all, those days are gone. Teachers may teach between 2 and 3 , 45 minutes sessions a day. Believe it or not kindergarten teachers spend the most time in a classroom out of them all. High School teachers spend the least amount of time in a classroom. For every hour in a classroom they are given 2 hours to prepare and grade reports. Most of today's teacher do very little preparation and they grade reports while in the classroom so after they get of the classroom they have two hours of goof off time going for a walk, shopping, hanging out in the teacher's lounge or meeting with union reps to insure they stay in line. Our public education system is broke.
#36196
All the teachers in my extended family realized that teaching would be deprofessionalized if the unions got control.

Back then, teachers wore a coat and tie, and there was discipline in the classrooms, and there was some hope for public school teaching.

All that, of course, has changed. It is still possible for public school students to take academic classes, go to magnet schools, and otherwise get a decent education, but they certainly have to plow through a lot of union-induced garbage to do it.
