Public schools cost 10x's the amount we spend of defense, it's turned into nothing more than a hand out to unions in exchange for teachers to push indoctrination, why public teachers are still called "teachers" is the big question. High School students are graduating that can't read or do math beyond the 3rd grade level, something has to be done.

First of all we have to address teaching. Indoctrination shouldn't be the school's addenda, teaching should be. Teachers that can't do math shouldn't be teaching math, that goes for every subject taught. We need to go back to basics, priority on reading, writing and math everyday in every class. Schools should be year round, with no Spring or Summer breaks, teachers get paid full time salaries they should teach full time. Maintaining empty schools 4 months out of the year is insane. Teachers should be required to spend at least 5 hours a day in a classroom, do away with teacher's aides. Replace teachers that don't perform. Do away kindergarten classes which are nothing more than tax payers paying for babysitting where the early indoctrination begins.

Do these simple things and students will actually come out of high school educated and prepared for college. They'll graduate sooner from high school due to going to school year round and schools will be flush with money to hire good teachers. Unions should be restricted to negotiating for teachers, not setting education programs and dictating how public schools are run. Unions work for the democrat politicians in turn democrats allow them to run the schools and reward them, children are used as pawns by both and as a result we are turning out uneducated zombies that think the Government is the answer to everything. Every year they get dumber as unions gain more and more control over schools.
