Conservative groups criticizing the budget deal struck between Rep. Paul Ryan and Sen. Patty Murray are “ridiculous,” House Speaker John Boehner said Wednesday.

Groups like Heritage Action and Americans for Prosperity had criticized the deal before it came out because it wouldn’t cut spending enough, in their view.

Boehner brushed them off.

“Listen,” he told reporters, “if you’re for more deficit reduction, you’re for this agreement.” He said those groups are using House Republicans “for their own goals.”

Not long after Boehner spoke Wednesday morning, congressional budget analysts said the Ryan-Murray agreement would reduce deficits by about $85 billion over the next 10 years.
