"The notion that, absent a welfare state, there is little compassion for fellow humans, well, that sort of moronic statement merely illustrates the low level of modern political discussion."-johnforbes
johnnjy hits the nail on the head. Now his version of the similar sweeping statement:
"Those who purport to burn with compassion for the less fortunate of this world can't even summon up a tiny amount of courtesy when confronting the fact that reasonable people differ on politics."-johnforbes
See, when johnforbes makes some sweeping statement that overlooks a crucial, salient fact, he has no problem with it.
When I do the same thing, he says it illustrates the "low level of modern political discussion."
johnforbes can't get it through his thick skull that his discussion is not "reasonable" but merely repetitious and jaded.
I have tried to reason with johnny in the past and 100% of the time he simply copy-and-pasted his previous comment and failed to elaborate or restate his silly gibberish with a reasoned argument.
Truisms and pap is all that emanates from his keyboard.
When you show signs of being reasonable, johnforbes, then the rest of us can start to talk to you as if you were actually some sort of reasonable person.
