Trey Radel is standing up, admitting and addressing his drug addiction. He is going to drug therapy. We should all understand the power drug addiction has over people and the medical problem that it presents. I applaud Trey Radel for taking serious social and medical steps to address his drug addiction.


Then there is the politics.

I would say that the leave of absence would be enough, but considering his public positions on drug addiction and his votes on drug policies for users this is completely hypocritical. He should resign. He has demonstrated his insensitive political actions persecuting others for the same actions that he has engaged in privately. This is untenable. He should resign.

Also, the leaders of his party should request and pressure him to resign, as they would if he were a Democrat or member of any other opposition party. To not do so is the highest of political hypocrisies.

Again, I praise Trey Radel for his personal actions to address his drug additions. We should all have compassion and sympathy for those addicted to drugs and understand the brain function modifications that occur and lead to addiction related compulsion behaviors and the necessity for medical intervention and counseling.
