Winfrey said she requested to be shown a handbag, later reported to be a $38,000 Tom Ford crocodile Jennifer bag, named for the actress Jennifer Aniston.
“[The shop clerk] says to me, ‘No. It’s too expensive,’ ” Winfrey recalled. When Winfrey repeated her request, she said, the clerk said Winfrey couldn’t afford it and steered her toward different handbags.
“I said, ‘I really did want to see that one,’ and she refused to get it,” Winfrey said. She said she repeatedly asked to see the handbag, and finally gave up and left, not wanting to make a scene. “I could have had the big blow-up thing and thrown down the black card and all that stuff, but why do that?”
