[quote]Cops told NBC not to use gun clip

NBC was told by the Washington, D.C., police that it was “not permissible” to pocess or show a high-capacity gun magazine on air before Sunday’s “Meet the Press,” according to a statement Wednesday from the cops.

“NBC contacted [the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department] inquiring if they could utilize a high capacity magazine for their segment,” Gwendolyn Crump, a police spokeswoman, said in an email. “NBC was informed that possession of a high capacity magazine is not permissible and their request was denied. This matter is currently being investigated.”

Despite being told it would be a violation of the law to do so, they used an illegal clip on a Sunday segment of “Meet the Press.” During the show, host David Gregory displayed a 30-round gun magazine while interviewing Wayne LaPierre, the head of the National Rifle Association.

“There are D.C. code violations, D.C. code restrictions on guns, ammunition,” police officer and spokesman Araz Alali told POLITICO Tuesday. “We are investigating this matter.”

An NBC spokeswomen said they felt the D.C. police were to try and block the use of the use of the clip and feel the use was appropriate for the show. She further stated that at no time was the clip a danger to the people of D.C. since it remained in the possession of a responsible NBC employee, before and after the show.

What it does is prove that laws will not stop someone hell bent on breaking them. They easily could have used a photo rather than the clip and accomplished the same thing without breaking the law. So all of you folks out there contemplating gun bans, this is proof that they won't work.

That's exactly what the problem is with the marijuana and prostitution. Laws prohibiting using drugs and having sex are a complete failure. But the ideologues have convinced the mass public they are still good to have around. Even though they know that people will always want to get high and have sex.

As far as I am concerned. I can see if someone wants to have a handgun for home protection or for a business owner who owns a jewelry shop. And if someone wants to use a single shot bolt action rifle for hunting then I have no issue. But military assault rifles have no purpose circulating in the general public.

If you're talking about fully automatic or ones with 30 round clips I agree, but if your talking about semi automatic rifles with 10 round clips I disagree.

In two of the last 3 shootings in which 30 round clips were used, they actually saved lifes since they jammed, which 30 round clips are notorious for doing. Those who served in the military know that the larger the clip the more likely the clip will jam due to increased friction, spring tension wearing out, more dirt/dust build up and other factors. Plus rookies often overload large clips by forcing that one last bullet in which is the biggest factor in jamming on large clips. I would rather take my chances going up against someone with a large clip than a small clip. It is very unusual for a small clip to jam.

So maybe we should allow 30 round clips and ban the smaller ones? Food for thought.
