Political discussions about everything

In 1961, Dr Bernard Fall published Street Without Joy, a study of the debacle the French created in Indochina.

Had anybody at State or Defense read that book, perhaps the early special ops would not have been sent to Vietnam, and perhaps all the costs there avoided.

America shold have departed Afghanistan long ago, after AQ got chased out, but how in the world could Biden and his hapless folks have botched the Afghan pullout to such an extent?

This is a disgrace, as bad as the April 1975 flight down the Rue sans Joie.

I suppose that republicans are so eager to see Trump, Kushner and Pompeo testify under oath in front of Congress for 12 straight hours on live national television to explain their justification as to why it was so important to release 5,000 Taliban fighters from jail and to see how they profited from it.

Elkin, this would require you to suspend your partisan hate for a second, but try to do so.

Go read Falls' wonderful 1961 book and you'll see how imperial hubris led France to its errors in Indochina, and how JFK could have and should have learned those lessons instead of messing with Green Berets in Vietnam at that time.

And ponder whether the US should ever have remained in Afghanistan after AQ was chased out of it.

But, to do so, you would have to suspend your petty politics for a few hours and actually read a great book.

Talk about hubris, johnforbes actually believes he's just started a thread about "Last Reflections" on the Afghanistan war.

Criminy, dimwit, the "Reflections" haven't even begun. This thread will be long gone and the books will still be being published and the classes will still be being taught in universities.

Actually, Clown is the dim person here.

Last Reflections on a War was Bernard Fall's final great book about Vietnam; it was put together after Fall stepped on a land mine on the Rue sans Joie, of all places.
