WHO says lockdowns could DOUBLE WORLD POVERTY and lead to child malnutrition with school lunch programs closed and parents not working.

As Covid-19 cases surge across large parts of Europe and the U.S., officials are reluctant to force another round of nationwide lockdowns of the sort imposed in March.

But this time—unlike in the spring—public-health experts broadly and increasingly agree, with some worried that the general public won’t cooperate with another monthslong, generalized lockdown against a disease whose transmission is now much better understood.

The World Health Organization has long favored interventions that come with less economic and social disruption than lockdowns, recommending that governments pursue a strategy called “test, trace, isolate,” of sequestering people exposed to the virus. Western governments have found themselves with too few tests and not enough contact-tracing staff to follow that plan of action.

Still, in recent days, WHO leaders have become more vocal in their encouragements that governments could do more to improve public-safety measures that would reduce the need for a second round of nationwide lockdowns.

"The World Health Organization has long favored interventions that come with less economic and social disruption than lockdowns,..."-johnflubs

So your source says the WHO has long favored not having lockdowns.

Now you're claiming the WHO WANTS lockdowns? I don't think so.

And you support lockdowns now? What "Tune" did they change? You never bother to explain the point of your silly threads.

"...recommending that governments pursue a strategy called “test, trace, isolate,” of sequestering people exposed to the virus."-johnflubs

So when do we get to see Trump's plan to "test, trace, isolate"? We haven't seen one from the White House in nine months, and I don't expect to see one anytime soon.

So far Trump is still saying that people should go about their business as if all is well (without masks if they choose) except for old people. He has released no plan at all to test, trace, and isolate.

I take it you posted this thread to criticize Trump for his failure to follow CDC guidelines on this? You really need to explain your point on these silly pointless threads of yours, johnny.

No, you got that backward.

WHO had this year favored lockdowns, but now they have woken up to the poverty created by them.

Not everybody can sit home like Clowntoker and await his welfare check.

So now you say your own source is lying?

That's pretty dumb to intentionally post a lying source, johnny. How are we to believe anything you post when you do that?

But I noticed you couldn't produce a plan from Trump to “test, trace, isolate,” could you? If Trump is going to ignore them, why post it?

If you want to criticize Trump's irresponsibility, then fine. But you should make it clear that's what you're doing.

Not everyone can sit home like johnforbes being a partisan hypocrite.

Clown, you are obviously not familiar with this year's chain of events.

WHO favored lockdowns, and did so early on this year.

The doctor stated yesterday, I think, that WHO has long been against lockdowns, so that part didn't make any sense and was not accurate unless he was being very candid and stating that all along there had been internal opposition to lockdowns.

In the US, Democrats favored lockdowns and still do. Biden promises more if his "experts" want them. Fauci always wants lockdowns.

But I suspected in Feb that they contravened Hippocrates, who said in Of the Epidemics: "First do no harm."

So you couldn't produce a plan from Trump to “test, trace, isolate” because he hasn't got one. And your claim your source was lying. Got it.

So YOU don't care if Trump ignores the WHO, and you still support his reckless policies and behavior toward the pandemic.

If Trump's going to ignore the sage medical advice, and YOU are still going to vote for him no matter how many people he kills needlessly by his policies and behavior, then why post about it?

You have yet to say one critical word about Trump and his reckless policies and behavior. I think you need to change your tune.

Actually, your thinking is wrong.

News outlets announce every day "Ten new cases found!" but the reality is that covid is washing across the country from 120 million people who remained on the job, from open grocery stores and liquor stores and pot shops, etc.

More tests = more cases = lower mortality rate and progress toward herd immunity.

Don't listen to me, but do listen to John Ioannidis, MD, DSc on this point.

No, johnny, that's your same old tune.

I told you you need to try something else. This one just ain't working for you.

As it is, I understand this thing far better than you apparently do.

I have been right from the start and you are still flailing about showing you don't understand the lousy job Trump has done and is doing with the pandemic. he still has no plan to enact what your god Ioanidis says he should have done.

And the fact that you still haven't criticized Trump for his reckless behavior is the proof of what I just said.

I get it, you don't.

Arguing about herd immunity is like arguing about gravity.

The fact that leftists are saying, well, there is no herd immunity with covid shows their stupidity.

A vaccine would merely be a different (and admittedly better) route to the same result.

NO ONE ever argued there is no such thing as herd immunity. Why must you always lie to argue your point?

Herd immunity is great. The problem is we are about 300,000 needless deaths away from achieving it via the 'natural' Republican path. ("Just let 'em all die and God will sort them out.")

Sweden tried your route, johnny. Their mortality numbers are among the worst in Europe and their economy is doing no better than the average. And they're still months away from approaching herd immunity.

What do Republicans have against wearing masks and keeping distance anyway? If they would wear them, we wouldn't be heading back to numbers that are threatening our ICU capacity again. (They should stop holding their absurd super spreader events as well.)

Masks are merely an inconvenience for most and they work. Ask any doctor.

The CDC is arguing with itself.

One CDC official said a mask protects as much as a vaccine, but of course it is known that masks do NOT prevent you from getting covid -- only from spreading too much if you do have it.

well no shit john damn you finally get it, "prevent others". which of course goes on def ears in a heard of republicans who have no concept of doing something for others. how about if we pay you to, or fine you if you don't just like a seat belt.
