"We investigate early or prophylactic treatment for COVID-19 with hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), which has been adopted or declined in different countries...

2.0 billion people were assigned to the treatment group, and 663 million to the control group.

As of August 5, 2020, an average of 37.8/million in the treatment group have died, and 438.5/million in the control group...

The treatment group has 79.1% lower chance of death."

The White House coronavirus task force member charged with coordinating the U.S. testing effort said Sunday that the nation needs to "move on" from the debate over hydroxychloroquine, a drug President Donald Trump has promoted as a COVID-19 treatment even though there is no clear evidence it is effective.

Adm. Brett Giroir, assistant secretary of health and human services, said on NBC News' "Meet the Press" that "from a public health standpoint, at first, hydroxychloroquine looked very promising" but at "this point in time, there's been five randomized control, placebo-controlled trials that do not show any benefit to hydroxychloroquine."

"So, at this point in time, we don't recommend that as a treatment. There's no evidence to show that it is," Giroir said.

The admiral is nuts.

You can't "move on" from a pandemic while ignoring one of the main, cheap, available methods to prevent it or limit its damage.

In essence, the 2 billion people globally who took HCQ had a 70 percent smaller chance of death from covid.

johnforbes is nuts.

2 billion people globally have not taken HCQ in the past seven months. There hasn't even been that much HCQ manufactured. It would have required an additional 15 to 20 billion doses beyond what was already being produced for other diseases. There hasn't been that much manufactured, so the 2 billion people couldn't possibly have taken it, could they.

"The global hydroxychloroquine market accounted for US$ 1.6 billion in 2019 [before the pandemic] and is estimated to be US$ 2.7 billion by 2029"-Prophesy Market Insights July 23, 2020

In other words, the production will not even double by 2029, let alone what would have been needed to treat 2 billion people in seven months of 2020. Production would have had to do much more than double to treat the 2 billion people claimed by your source.

johnny, your source is not a controlled scientific drug trial. It is a statistical analysis based on faulty premises. Get a grip already.

Clown, you are not thinking correctly.

For over 60 yrs, people all over the world have been taking prophylactic doses of HCQ or its pharm relations to prevent malaria.

These areas transition into covid with that status.

Doctors terminated studies involving hydroxychloroquine for treating COVID-19 because it doesn't work and there were severe side effects.

This led the FDA to send out a warning saying that hydroxychloroquine causes heart rhythm problems.....

Knowing this....no Doctor will treat a patient for COVID-19 with hydroxycholorquine, since they will be sued for malpractice and their credentials will be revoked.....

Elkin, you are reciting old rhetoric.

Open up your eyes to the word "early" treatment with HCQ.

In essence, the 2 billion people who got HCQ early or for preventative purposes had 79 percent less chance of death than the 700 million who didn't.

The facts are the facts.

The FDA published their guidance on the usage of hydroxychloroquine. They said is it is not effective in treating COVID-19 and it causes serious heart issues. So why do you keep on debating this?

Hydroxychloroquine does not work in treating COVID-19.
