They are pondering various hawk-related names, but this is classic bird bias.

Also, hawks eat eat, which offends vegetarians.

Thoughts?

The story I heard ..
that many many moons ago when the team was being named
A certain Indian Nation campaigned to have the name "Redskin" ...
and the likeness of one of their brother/warrior used as the logo...
for as long as the waters flow and the green grass grows...
Redskin is a source of pride for Native Americans...
As is "Chicano" for Mexican Americans...and so on :O

Well, that is actually a story.

My high school had its own herd of cattle and a rifle range in the basement. No kidding.

On the school bus, it was very common to see a kid enter the bus with a rifle in a case. There were no security guards in the school, and no need for them, but students walked the halls with rifles and kept them in their lockers until taking them down to the rifle range.

However, funding for a football team was not there, so there were magazine subscription drives and a student store, plus small fines from a student court, and the goal was enough to buy uniforms and such for a football team.

Throughout my time there, there were jokes that the vice prin was stealing the money and so we could never afford a football team.

Years later, that same fellow was actually charged with stealing that money and putting it in his own checking account.

So I played basketball in hiigh school and college, not football.

johnforbes does like to tell stories about growing up rich, doesn't he...

Our school didn't have any rifle range so we had to take our .22s out to the playground where we set up pop bottles and beer cans that we found in the ditches on the way to school to use for target practice. Each of us would get about five rounds out of a partial box that someone would swipe from someone's dad and hope he didn't miss them.

Our only basketball court was in an undersized WWII surplus Quonset hut. It was seldom open for our use.
Years later they poured a patch of asphalt outside and put up a single hoop we could use after hours for half-court games.

Our principal was also convicted of stealing money from the school, only it was while I was there. People had been wondering how he could afford his massive 2500 sq.ft. waterfront home on the salary they paid him.

Some of us could only dream of growing up rich like spoiled brat johnforbes.

Clown you think you had it bad...
Our high school golf team had to practice at a public course....and we had to pay for our own fees....
And don't get me started on our Polo team …
Our school had stables for just six horses, and only one groom...so we had to stable our own ponies at home... :(

I never said I had it bad.

Our school consistently turned out students that were scholastically almost two years ahead of the rest of the county.
We had great teachers hired directly by the area's parents. They taught us not to be dimwitted assholes.

Sorry about your teachers, silly... :(

Beer cans to shoot at?

That sounds like the lap of luxury.

Our area had actual moonshiners, and they concealed their hobby with nicknames like "Mooney" (just as Loretta Lynn's hubby did).

When my brother got a BB pistol, he sought to persuade me to put on two sweatshirts and let him shoot me. I declined, thus passing my first IQ test.

It was even worse than that.

We drag-raced on country roads, and at an airport before the real drag races on Saturday night.

And then the military.

It was a small miracle that Clowntoker has the enormous pleasure of my company on this fine forum.

Clown thanks his lucky stars every day for that, as well he should.

I wonder how many conservatives in Texas and Florida will be awarded the Darwin award during this pandemic.....but it's only like the "flu".....right Johnnie?
By johnforbes
#126471
No, more easily transmitted they say.

But mortality rates have declined to about the level of an ordinary bad flu season.

And that is true despite classifying deaths WITH covid as BECAUSE of it.
By divermouse
#126474
and yet the hospitals have never been so empty or full on the regular and quarantine areas respectively.
body overflow in refer trailers because the undertakers can't process fast enough.
we are at nearly the high annual average flu death rate in just half the year +-. no matter the "classification.
and just for sport this "just the flu" comes action packed with residual and up-cropping excitement to the lungs, heart, kidneys, brain and lots of cool blood clots in every organ. come get ya some, lick a door handle today.
By johnforbes
#126475
Nobody said it was "just the flu," but what was said was that increasing cases have driven the mortality rate down to about that of a regular bad flu season.

As the NY Times reported, America was having a bad flu seasons BEFORE covid came, so it is utterly reasonable to wonder how many flu deaths were reported as covid deaths.

Bear in mind that, in 2017-18, there were 80,000 deaths in US from regular flu.

Send them to be treated back where they illegally entered from...

When Trump closed off China and Europe, Biden called him racist and xenophobic, but we are all now glad he did close.

johnny, we're talking about realistic, practical things to do. Not knee jerk partisan things to do.

You don't spend an hour or two gathering 50 sick people, put them on a hot bus, drive them suffering or two hours to the border, throw up at the border for two hours while processing through, then drive them for another couple hours to a hospital and unload those who survived the ordeal. And then many of those would still get treatment too late too help.

Get real. That's what inhumane assholes do. ("Republicans" is another word for it.)

Here we take care of sick people (at least up until their insurance runs out.) If we don't take them in, they will be out spreading the sickness around the neighborhood and make the problem far worse.

You need to learn that it is in your own interest to care for them. But that leap takes intelligence you lack, obviously.
By johnforbes
#126496
Oh, if you are talking about local and immediate handling of that problem, of course that's true.

As a general rule, though, you don't want to take the medical problems of Mexico or the socioeconomic problems of El Salvador and offload them onto the taxpayers of America.

It is only fair.

Would I sneak into Mexico and break the law and expect them to help me? No.

Do I expect Clown to support me economically? No.

johnny, we're talking about realistic, practical things to do. Not knee jerk partisan things to do.
As I said, the hospitals are using up their resources on the illegals..
So Clown thinks it's "inhumane' to turn them away...Ok then...
Yet US citizens are told to stay away from hospitals if they have virus symptoms... :O

"Yet US citizens are told to stay away from hospitals if they have virus symptoms... "-sillydummy

Wow, that would be really interesting if it weren't such a stupid lie. :O

The CDC says to isolate at home if you were exposed to someone known to have the virus or if you have symptoms but don't need hospitalization.

They never told you to stay away from hospitals when you actually need hospital care, dummy.
By Clownkicker
#126511
Believe it or not, dummy, lots of people would prefer to die at home instead of at a hospital. I'm one of them.

But if you're saying a lot of Texans don't have the sense to go to a hospital when they can't breathe, well, nobody ever said Texans were intelligent.

That's why Republicans don't get why it's such a big deal when Floyd complained to the cop that he couldn't breathe.

For your typical Texas Republican, they wouldn't seek treatment for that silly minor problem in the first place. :O
By johnforbes
#126517
100 percent of people said Floyd, a drug addict, should have been arrested alive and sent to jail for processing.

He did rob a pregnant woman at gunpoint, which is not the hallmark of the typical hero of civil rights.

Johnnie are you done with pressing your brownshirts and associated attire....from what I hear...Trump has people disappearing into rental vans in Portland.

What kind of shithole banana republic sends out unidentified government agents to disappear peaceful protestors?
By johnforbes
#126687
For the past 50 days, rioters have looted and burned Portland.

They even yelled at the pandering leftist mayor.

Using unmarked vehicles to arrest criminals is dandy, and all of them will get Miranda, Escobedo, and other "rights" which the Supreme Court found for them though they are not really in the Constitution anywhere.

Using secret military thugs to beat the shit out of everybody was not the solution we were looking for when we asked cops to stop killing black people....

Miss President Email Lady wouldn't have spent taxpayer dollars to send out a bunch of unidentified fascist military thugs and goons to go out and teargas your mom in order to create a campaign ad..............

So they had to get a federal judge is issue a restraining order on Trump's goon squads in Portland?

Looks like Trump's "law and order" campaign has gone up in a fiery blaze of glory.......
