Political discussions about everything

johnny, COVID-19 is NOT "flu" as you keep misreporting-- or else simply lying about for partisan reasons.

Though "flu" is caused by a corona virus, all corona viruses are not "flu". COVID-19 is not "a flu". It's different. For example, the common cold virus is a corona virus. The seasonal common cold is not "a flu outbreak" as johnny is suggesting by calling COVID-19 "a flu" in order to make a partisan point based on ignorance and targeting the ignorant.

johnforbes is intentionally spreading misinformation. Why he would do that, I don't know. One can only assume the worst in the case of partisan hacks like johnfibs.

Trump: "No the coronavirus won't become a pandemic. Not at all."
Also Trump: "I've always known this is a real pandemic. I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic."

So the dimwit who said"no one saw this coming" who fired the pandemic response team, then went golfing, after golfing Trump called it a hoax, then Trump went golfing.........again, then he said he had a "hunch" it wasn't all so deadly, then Trump went out golfing again, and bragged that there would be 15 cases...tops and then it gets hot and through a miracle we would be down to zero.

Now that doesn't seem to be aging well, now does it?

No, johnny, that's NOT a lie. It's true, Trump lied to you again to the detriment of all Americans and you don't care, as always.

This is what Trump has actually said over the past two months:

On Jan. 22, asked by a CNBC reporter whether there were “worries about a pandemic,” Trump replied: “No, not at all. We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”

On Feb. 26, at a White House news conference, commenting on the country’s first reported cases: “We’re going to be pretty soon at only five people. And we could be at just one or two people over the next short period of time. So we’ve had very good luck.”

On Feb. 27, at a White House meeting: “It’s going to disappear. One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear.”

On March 7, standing next to President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil at Mar-a-Lago, when asked if he was concerned that the virus was spreading closer to Washington: “No, I’m not concerned at all. No, I’m not. No, we’ve done a great job.”

Then on March 17th Trump said: “This is a pandemic, I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic.”

That's without even mentioning his idiotic statement to the public that he has a "hunch" about a virus mortality rate when he has no medical or scientific training at all. No President should ever say such a thing under such circumstances, johnny. NEVER.

Obama's record is clear -- he waited until A MILLION PEOPLE WERE INFECTED and 1000 died.

Trump acted swiftly as the coronavirus emerged, and thankfully closed off travel from China, for which the Left promptly called him racist (as usual).

To kids like Elkin and Clown, their only mantra is ORANGE MAN BAD.
#123442
To a dishonest partisan weasel like johnforbes, his only mantra is ORANGE MAN GOOD.

johnfibs still doesn't understand that Obama is not President, and whatever he did or didn't do, it does not excuse Trump's lies and mishandling of this whole crisis.

Wake up, johnny. Your family's lives depend on it.
#123448
Issues can't be discussed in splendid isolation.

Historical context is crucial, and we also have Biden running and claiming he could do better, so that is germane too.

It is obviously true that Obama's mismanagement of his flu crisis wouldn't be a reason, or excuse, if this one got out of control.

But it would appear that a lot of this is overblown, and clearly case counts never were increasing in "exponential" fashion as some dolts on TV claimed.
#123450
They not only WERE increasing exponentially, johnny, they are STILL increasing exponentially, just with a smaller exponent than they would have. You somehow seem to have overlooked the 475 dead in Italy just yesterday. We haven't flattened the curve enough yet.

You really need to get out more. Wait....... maybe you actually shouldn't get out right now....

But you still need to know there is a larger world beyond your myopic metaphorical cardboard box.
#123463
^^^^^ And that's the partisan hack cop out and you know it. Exponential growth is not limited to integers.

johnforbes admits I'm correct, but then desperately splits semantic hairs and pretends someone else is incorrect for saying the same thing I just said.

Does anybody here remember when the Ebola virus, Zika Virus and the Swine Flu caused mass cancellations, the stock market to crash, mass confusion due to presidential misinformation/ineptitude and for people to hoard toilet paper?

No you don't and neither do I. But I do remember when Obama handled it like a boss.

A badly needed johnforbes reality check:

"Though the H1N1 virus had begun spreading in Mexico, the first case in the United States was detected on April 15, 2009, in a 10-year-old patient in California. Two days later, CDC laboratory testing confirmed a second infection in an 8-year-old also living in California. Within one week, the CDC had activated its Emergency Operations Center to respond to what it had identified as an emerging public health threat.

Before the end of April, the government had declared a public health emergency and started releasing medical supplies and drugs from the CDC’s Strategic National Stockpile. “The real-time PCR test developed by CDC was cleared for use by diagnostic laboratories by FDA under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) on April 28, 2009, less than two weeks after identification of the new pandemic virus,” the CDC notes on its website.

Sebelius remembers that date well. It was the day she was sworn in as HHS secretary.

The test developed by the CDC was created quickly. It was accurate. And it was shared with governments around the world, she said. “The capacity of CDC at that point to make and develop and quickly turn out a test was vastly different than what we saw occurring” with the coronavirus, Sebelius said.

In an interview, Dr. Tom Frieden, who was CDC director under Obama, said testing for H1N1 and the United States’ willingness to share its test with other countries was a success. “I traveled all over the world and for years afterward even very hostile governments were saying thank you for sending it to us.”

Coronavirus testing, on the other hand, remains mired in delays. Though the first person in the United States was confirmed to have the virus on Jan. 20, a series of problems have kept testing out of reach for many patients with telltale symptoms of the virus. The CDC designed a flawed test for COVID-19, then it took weeks to figure out a fix so state and local labs could use it, ProPublica found. Trump said on March 6 that “anybody who wants a test gets a test,” but many doctors, patients and public health leaders say that is not the case.

On Wednesday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, a Republican, said: “Testing is limited. It will, in all likelihood, remain limited.”--ProPublica

Trump is STILL lying to you, johnny, but for some reason you are not only swallowing his lies, but you are naively and unquestioningly propagating his lies. Even Republicans are calling him a liar, as we see with Gov. DeWine.

No, I was listening to the doc I happened to be talking with today.

Apparently, what ya want to avoid with coronavirus is cytokine storm.

Trying chloroquine with an antibiotic has reportedly proven efficacious in France, and docs are Rxing it because no FDA approval is needed to use it, and it has been used since 1944.

Sure, a long, big, serious study would be better, but this is an emergency and you want to save lives.
#123615
Oh, I agree.

But why didn't Fauci start a quick clinical trial of HCQ last Monday?

If he had, he could already have gathered crucial data given the quantity of patients needing help.

We are not completing our PhDs here, but trying to save people from death in a crisis.
