"Obama delayed the aid longer than Trump, and that might have been one of the very few things he got correct."-johnforbes
Obama delayed the aid because of Ukrainian corruption, as he should have.
Trump delayed the aid for personal political benefit because our military had already evaluated Ukraine's actions to curb corruption. On top of that, military aid was crucial to Ukraine's ability to stand up to Russia, which was in the interest of the U.S.. You don't always get to be picky about who is going to fight our fights for us. Our military had cleared Ukraine for aid. Trump doesn't get to break our laws and delay the aid authorized by Congress more than 48 days, which he did.
"There was no quid,..."-johnfibs
Of course there was a quid; military aid. Everyone, including Trump, admits there was a quid. Only imbeciles deny there was military aid sent to Ukraine.
"...no pro,..."-johnfibs
We'll never know unless witnesses are allowed to testify in the trial, right, johnny? What kind of traitors to America would insist there should not be witnesses in a trial? We aren't China or Russia, are we. We have trials based on evidence, and all relevant evidence should be heard. It's the American way.
"...but the truth is that Ukraine never should have gotten the billion in military aid which has doubtless already been wasted."-johnfibs
Sure, I believe johnforbes over the opinions of our Joint Chiefs and intelligence agencies. Who wouldn't? They all disagreed with johnforbes, as he well knows.
Regardless, even if they shouldn't have gotten the aid in johnforbes' bizarre fantasy world, the law doesn't allow the President to make that call. Congress has that power, not the President. If Congress is wrong in johnflubs' opinion, that still doesn't exonerate Trump when he breaks the law by defying the will of Congress.
