Political discussions about everything

Two former top staffers to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have lobbied Congress and the Treasury Department on the development of a new Kentucky aluminum mill backed by the Russian aluminum giant Rusal, according to a new lobbying disclosure.

The disclosure comes as Democrats are pushing the Trump administration to review Rusal’s $200 million investment in the Kentucky project — concerned that the mill will supply the Defense Department — and as McConnell weathers criticism for helping block a congressional effort to stop the investment.

The Russian firm was only able to make the investment after it won sanctions relief from penalties the Treasury Department initially imposed in April 2018 on Rusal and other companies owned by Oleg Deripaska, a Russian oligarch and Kremlin ally accused of facilitating Moscow’s nefarious activities, such as seizing land in Ukraine, supplying arms for the Syrian regime and meddling in other countries’ elections.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin announced in December that the department would lift the sanctions on Deripaska's companies, which had roiled global aluminum markets, if the oligarch agreed to drastically reduce his stake in the businesses. The deal was reportedly potentially beneficial to Deripaska, however. Deripaska himself still remains under U.S. sanctions.

But whoever coined “Moscow Mitch” seems to have really touched a nerve with the Republican Senate Majority leader responsible for killing just about every piece of legislation benefiting the American public that the Democratic House of Representatives has passed over the past year. While Mitch McConnell has reveled in his ability to single-handedly stop our country from functioning as a democracy, his refusal to protect the nation from an attack by pro-Trump Russian cyber-spies infiltrating our election process seems to have finally tipped the equation.

WASHINGTON — Senator Mitch McConnell is usually impervious to criticism, even celebrating the nasty nicknames critics bestow on him. But Mr. McConnell, the Senate majority leader, is incensed by the name “Moscow Mitch,” and even more miffed that he has been called a “Russian asset” by critics who accuse him of single-handedly blocking stronger election security measures after Russia’s interference in 2016.

Ya gotta stop with the Russia stuff.

Senator Joseph McCarthy was a disgrace long ago for his Russia paranoia, and modern Democrats have been crying "Russia, Russia, Russia" for three years now.

The only evidence of Russian collusion was when Hillary used Russian sources for her fake dossier.

She also sold uranium to Russia.

A more honest thread title would have been "MOSCOW HILLARY."

John, several weeks ago there was a reoirt published, in two sections, outlining the crimes and collusion by the Trum-de-Bump campaign. I guess you missed that.

Snake, obviously you don't know this, but collusion isn't even a crime (except in some narrow financial areas).

Set that aside and Mueller and his team consisting of 100 percent partisan Democrats spent two years and 40 million dollars and found no crime related to Russia to charge.

Meanwhile, Hillary did sign the uranium deal to sell uranium to Russia (did you hear that is the foundational material for nuclear weapons?) and her foundation took in hundreds of millions in pay-to-play.

The McCarthy Era was a disgraceful display of Russia-related paranoia, and every good Democrat correctly condemned it, but today Democrats did the very same thing (and worse) for two years.

You are STILL trying to do it, and it looks foolish at best and nutty at worst.
