A man wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat and who reeked of booze was arrested for trying to slap a phone out of a reporter’s hand outside a Florida arena where President Trump announced his 2020 presidential bid, police said.
Daniel Patrick Kestner, 51, of St. Augustine, was charged with battery after slapping the hand of Orlando Sentinel reporter Michael Williams, who posted a 59-second video of his encounter with Kestner and another man after the pair got kicked out of the Amway Center on Tuesday.
“F–k that, I’m liberal now,” an unidentified man said to Kestner. “We did nothing!”
Kestner then turned his attention to Williams, who was using his cellphone to record the interaction, video shows.
“Are you taping?” Kestner told Williams while putting up his hand. “I don’t want it. Stop.”
Kestner then walked toward Williams and promised to kick him in the testicles before looking around and smacking the reporter’s right hand while accusing the man of taping him. Security officials then approached Kestner, video shows.
Kestner was later charged with battery for “willingly striking” Williams without permission, according to a police report obtained by The Post.
“It should be noted the smell of alcohol was emitting from Kestner’s person and was more prevalent when he entered my patrol vehicle, indicating Kestner was intoxicated,” according to the report.
Kestner downplayed the incident when reached early Thursday, saying “it’s not that big of a deal.”
“You guys must have nothing else going on right now,” the married father of three told The Post. “This is the dumbest thing ever and I promise that if you were me, you’d think the same thing.”
