Obama fired Mattis as commander of CENTCOM without so much as a phone call.

How come that was dandy, but now his firing is a national tragedy?

No, that's a stupid question based on a faulty premise and without any context.

Trump didn't fire Mattis, dimwit. Mattis quit in protest over Trump's short-sighted withdrawal of all troops from Syria and more from Afghanistan. He criticized Trump on the way out the door and didn't even pretend to thank Trump for the opportunity to serve, as you would expect. Mattis wasn't 'fired' and he didn't 'retire'.

You should be very concerned that Mattis quit under these circumstances, johnny.
