It’s the ultimate in irony: The world’s most famous ex-community organizer is facing a major uprising from the community where his presidential center is supposed to be built—the same community, in fact, where he got his start in politics. The contract that community organizers are demanding of Obama “community benefits agreement”—would require the city to freeze property taxes within a 2-mile radius of the Obama Center and guarantee “a significant guaranteed set-aside of new housing for low-income housing in the area surrounding” the center. It would also require the foundation to establish a trust fund for nearby public schools and small businesses, and MANDATE that 80 percent of library construction jobs go to South Side residents and all staffing be minorities.Obama is fighting their demands tooth and nail, first of all he wants people who know what they're doing building his billion dollar library, he doesn't want it surrounded by low-income housing scum and he doesn't want a bunch of black south siders as staff for his library. Can you imagine turning over a billion dollars to a bunch of black south siders to build something and then hiring black south siders to run it while at the same time building slums around it? Obama isn't stupid, he's going to get some white builders in there that know what they're doing, he's going to insure any low income slums aren't visible from the library and the only black staff will be token figure heads that have a title but no real jobs. He sure isn'tt going to let them access to the money to run the library or any or the valuables on display. He will hire big black security guards that'll be outside of the library to keep black gang bangers from entering though.
The demands they are making of Obama may sound familiar, they're the same exact demands Obama once made as a community organizer of a builder in the same area of the city. Obama says the demands are unreasonable, he began by saying, “I was a community organizer.” Then he said, “I know the neighborhood. I know that the minute you start saying, ‘Well, we’re thinking about signing something that will determine who’s getting jobs and contracts and this and that’ … next thing I know, I’ve got 20 organizations coming out of the woodwork.” The answer infuriated those who were expecting more from him.
