Many of us are looking forward to the re-opening of the VW family of sites, but in any undertaking of this size and complexity there are bound to be a few hiccups. Having a good bug reporting system in place should make it easier for both the professionals and the community to track and fix any issues that may come up.
If there is already a bug reporting system in place, please point me to it so I can be prepared for the re-launch. If not, this would seem like a good time to get something set up.
Some thoughts if there is not a system yet:
There are probably lots of good ways to do this, and probably lots of opinions about what would work best. Many sites (including this one previously) provide a means of contacting the tech folks about site issues, and some boards (including the old one for this site) include a section where users could post about site issues. A combination of the two could be nice, some sort of Bug Report Forum where the users and the techs can work together.
Organization and open communication could benefit everyone. The techs could post some guidelines about the type of information they need, and how best to present it. If I hit a bug and don't find information about it in the forum, I know it is worth my time to file a report. If I hit a bug and do find information about it in the forum, I know I don't need to waste my time or a tech's time with redundant reports. The techs could post updates, request any additional information they need, ask for help reproducing the issue or testing fixes, etc., and by keeping us in the loop we will know they are on top of things and be able to help where we can.
