Political discussions about everything

johnny, saying I said something I didn't say is not "lighthearted banter".

You know if you make up something about me, guys like namandgulf and Insipid absorb it into their belief system as fact. That's why FOXnews and Breitbart are so successful. They make something up and it immediately becomes true to their readers and viewers because it reinforces their existing beliefs. From that moment on you cannot disillusion them, even if you present them with an undisputed fact from a reputable source proving that what they now believe is wrong.

You pretend that what you said is 'harmless joking' but you know it wasn't joking (or "banter") at all. It is equivalent to libel in this forum.
It harms my reputation and cannot ever be undone because of the feeble mental state of the others here.
Virtually everything you clowns believe about me is pretty much made up stupid shit. You all believe I'm someone that exists only in your wacko minds.

Insipid actually thinks I'm a Marxist and in a wheelchair and gay and who knows what else. He's not joking, he believes it.
You think I'm Grog for some reason.
namandgulfdumbfuck thinks I'm someone who still owns his sorry ass from 15 years ago. (I'm not even sure that guy he raves about ever existed.) And this nonsense persists even after I have told you clowns three times who I am. But your minds are ossified. Reality can no longer penetrate them.
#90376
No, I don't think Clownslacker is Grog.

However, I've grown so used to insulting Grog that I miss doing it.

Therefore, sometimes I pretend to believe Clown is Grog even knowing, or suspecting, the contrary to be true, and they are both contrary but not true.

I hope that clarifies the matter with the sort of logic employed by AN Whitehead.

If the world's finances collapse due to a nuke war, or any other reason, gold PAPER will be worthless.
Fact is much of gold paper would already collapse if everyone tried to cash in. There is no doubt there are firms that have oversold. There are numerous other paper investments that probably don't have the reserves to handle a rush on their doors. Gold bullion will be one of the few "solid" assets if all hell breaks lose. Plus it continues to climb in value, year after year.

Just like the banks.

I take the point about a global collapse and fiat currency, but in a SHTF scenario wouldn't exchance of heavy precious metal also be a problem?

In the military, I've seen Third World nations in near collapse, and the main stores of value were the standard ones of "bullets, beans, and Band-Aids."

But I do agree you could see paper currency used, like confederate money, for wallpaper.

I'm well-prepared. I have several boxes each of Chicken and Beef.
Unless you have a stock pile of ammo these fine lads with take that chicken within days of any large scale emergency.

“Gold gets dug out of the ground in Africa, or someplace. Then we melt it down, dig another hole, bury it again and pay people to stand around guarding it. It has no utility. Anyone watching from Mars would be scratching their head.”

“The problem with commodities is that you are betting on what someone else would pay for them in six months. The commodity itself isn’t going to do anything for you….it is an entirely different game to buy a lump of something and hope that somebody else pays you more for that lump two years from now than it is to buy something that you expect to produce income for you over time.”

“Gold is a way of going long on fear, and it has been a pretty good way of going long on fear from time to time. But you really have to hope people become more afraid in a year or two years than they are now. And if they become more afraid you make money, if they become less afraid you lose money, but the gold itself doesn’t produce anything.”

“I will say this about gold. If you took all the gold in the world, it would roughly make a cube 67 feet on a side…Now for that same cube of gold, it would be worth at today’s market prices about $7 trillion dollars – that’s probably about a third of the value of all the stocks in the United States…For $7 trillion dollars…you could have all the farmland in the United States, you could have about seven Exxon Mobils, and you could have a trillion dollars of walking-around money…And if you offered me the choice of looking at some 67 foot cube of gold and looking at it all day, and you know me touching it and fondling it occasionally…Call me crazy, but I’ll take the farmland and the Exxon Mobils.”

“The major asset in this category is gold, currently a huge favorite of investors who fear almost all other assets, especially paper money (of whose value, as noted, they are right to be fearful). Gold, however, has two significant shortcomings, being neither of much use nor procreative. True, gold has some industrial and decorative utility, but the demand for these purposes is both limited and incapable of soaking up new production. Meanwhile, if you own one ounce of gold for an eternity, you will still own one ounce at its end.”

“What motivates most gold purchasers is their belief that the ranks of the fearful will grow. During the past decade that belief has proved correct. Beyond that, the rising price has on its own generated additional buying enthusiasm, attracting purchasers who see the rise as validating an investment thesis. As “bandwagon” investors join any party, they create their own truth — for a while.“

“I have no views as to where it will be, but the one thing I can tell you is it won’t do anything between now and then except look at you. Whereas, you know, Coca-Cola will be making money, and I think Wells Fargo will be making a lot of money and there will be a lot — and it’s a lot — it’s a lot better to have a goose that keeps laying eggs than a goose that just sits there and eats insurance and storage and a few things like that.”

Silly Shit.....I do have those foil wrap things, but they're not chocolate. They're condoms.

I bought most of the gold stuff in the 80s. Stocked up on silver ingots after they went back down in the 90s. Shoulda sold all that shit back couple a years ago when it was up.

Dog, you should have no problem selling them for what you paid for them in the 80's. Sure you could find someone willing to pay you $370.00 an ounce.

The U.S. needs every penny from liberals it can get to pay off Barry's years of spending!
Obamacare was the greatest scam of all time. It was sold to the States with the promise the federal government would cover the start up costs and most of the first five years and after that collected premiums would handle the expenses. Well as soon as Obama completed his 8 years as president the five year handout of federal government ended and States are in deep trouble because the cost have went up, not down - Obama's response...not my problem.

What we need is a good war to stimulate our country and would allow Trump new powers to make drastic needed changes.
#90457
"The U.S. needs every penny from liberals it can get to pay off Barry's years of spending!"

What you mean is that "The US needs every penny< from everyone except the rich, to pay for Bush's Oil Wars."

Just Stupid.....The ACA was working just fine until the rich fucks who own all the insurance companies began their efforts to sabotage it.

Besides.....The ACA DOES need scraping, along with all the health insurance companies. What we need, and will end up with, is Single Payer. Medicare for all. It'll be better, and it'll be cheaper. The only losers will be the insurance companies.
#90460
The "poor" pay essentially no taxes.

Successful people pay pretty much all the taxes.

Obamacare was a wealth transfer scheme to constrain successful people to all sorts of liberal notions.

Remember the Georgetown Law gal who was angry that she might have to pay for her own birth control?

Yep, a giant VA for everyone, nurses and doctors would become federal workers that can't be fired, customer service, quality and productivity goes out the door while expenses drastically climb. It would help kill off of the elderly and really sick though as they wait months to see a doctor.
#90466
"The "poor" pay essentially no taxes."-johnfibs

Dishonest johnny knows this is a lie but he says it anyway. As a percentage of income, poor people pay a far higher rate tax rate than the wealthy. This is unfair and regressive. Those who need the money most have the largest percentage of their income taken from them.

If johnforbes insists the wealthy pay most taxes in absolute terms, then it is only an idictment of a system where the 20 wealthiest people in America own more wealth than the poorest 50% of Americans combined.
https://www.ips-dc.org/billionaire-bonanza/
The wealthy benefit most from what America provides, (as the past decade has shown us in income growth for all sectors of the society) they should pay the most for what they disproportionately receive from America. This is a perfectly reasonable and fair thing to expect.

"According to the report, the lower one’s income, the higher the effective state and local tax rate. Combining all state and local income, property, sales and excise taxes that Americans pay, the nationwide average effective state and local tax rates by income group are 10.9 percent for the poorest 20 percent, 9.4 percent for the middle 20 percent and 5.4 percent for the top 1 percent, the report said.

In the 10 states with the most regressive tax structures, the bottom 20 percent pay up to seven times as much of their income in combined taxes as their wealthy counterparts."-Pew Charitable Trusts

"Remember the Georgetown Law gal who was angry that she might have to pay for her own birth control?"-johnfoibles

Conservatives are truly idiots if they can't understand they want poor people and anyone who wants it to use birth control...at any cost to themselves. They should be clamoring to pay for it, not indignantly refusing to pay for it.
It is far cheaper for them in the long run as compared to social welfare program costs.

"Yep, a giant VA for everyone, nurses and doctors would become federal workers that can't be fired, customer service, quality and productivity goes out the door..."-ReslStool

This is more made up stupid shit.
Most hospitals are now owned by corporations and there is no reason to expect that the government would buy all of them, nor that they would hire all the medical staff. Customer service would be as good as the corporations are now willing to provide. If the service comes to suck worse than it currently does, then it's only because the corporations are willing to let it suck. The corporations would still oppress the nurses through overwork and under-staffing as they do now.
All a "single payer" system means is that private medical insurance companies wouldn't be removing billions of dollars from the health care system before it goes to actually providing health care.

Private insurers no longer serve any useful purpose in the medical system. They just cost doctors and hospitals millions of dollars a year in billing and staffing expenses, and bleed off billions that could be spent on actual medical care instead.

"It would help kill off of the elderly and really sick though as they wait months to see a doctor."-RealStool

Why do you think corporate hospitals would provide any worse scheduling then than they do now?
As namandgulfdumbfuck would say, you're just pulling shit out of your ass.
#90470
Tool, people who go to the VA are just as happy with their care as those who go to other hospitals.

https://www.va.gov/opa/pressrel/pressre ... fm?id=2537
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fed ... 74ed9446cc

The VA does just as well as corporations in providing care...THANK YOU!!!

But again, the government wouldn't be buying the hospitals, dummy. If you like corporations now, which you seem to, then you'll be just as happy with private corporations in the future.
#90472
There may be examples of important expertise such as artificial limbs (e.g., the prosthetic Fred Downs recently got).

But, generally speaking, only roughly 30 percent of vets use the VA or even want to.

If I went to a VA hospital, I'd wait behind a WW II vet who had a leg blown off, and I should wait behind him since I'm unimpaired.

But why do that unless I have no better alternatives?
#90476
Tool, people who go to the VA are just as happy with their care as those who go to other hospitals.
Just like any other government survey of their services, it only included those who finally got service and excluded those on the wait lists or who filed complaints.
#90478
Once again, the AssClown Steppinfetchit insipid is right, "the AssClown is sadly misinformed".

Whereas I posted links to two sources of information, the AssClown Steppinfetchit had no information at all to include in his post, which is the very definition of being uninformed.
Instead, he just calls a bunch of veterans liars.
What a scumbag traitor to America! :( :( :( :( :(

Way to go, Loser Boy Insipid, you proved again that you are nothing but an ignorant uninformed turd boy.

"Clown you didn't provide a link to what veterans said."-RealStool

First you agreed with what I said, that people who received care at the VA are as happy with it as those who went to regular hospitals, and then you pretend I need a link to support YOUR beliefs.
You didn't notice that you failed to provide a link for what you said. Nice one, Tool.

But that isn't really relevant, is it, dummy, since most of the other hospitals under a single-payer system in this country would be owned by corporations and not by the government as in the case of the VA. If you like them now, you'll like them later, right?
But whether you think the VA provides good care or not, holding out the VA as an example of what you don't want has nothing to do with what we would actually have under a single payer system. You're pretending everyone's care would suddenly change because it is uniformly insured by one entity instead of by dozens of entities with random, often nonsensical, exclusions for coverage. That's ridiculous.

Remember, there is nothing that would prevent you from buying supplemental insurance for yourself to pay the remainder not covered under medicare, just as millions of people do today. It has nothing to do with the quality of care anyone receives. It has to do with how much money you owe at the end of the day, same as it is under the multiple-payer system we have now.

What happens now when the government doesn't send out Social Security checks, silly? ~~ Clown
The people wait and do without .....because they have no choice.....
Is that what you want with your healthcare.....? :o :o :o
#90498
No, silly, that's not what happens.

Social Security checks ALWAYS go out, even when the government is "shut down."
Some things just don't happen in government. In this country, it's that you don't irreparably piss off your constituents when you're playing politics.
And certainly no politician is going to kill his own constituents by withholding their health care just to play politics.

Single payer means health care rationing and the government deciding who gets care, what type of care and how much care. ie, death panels. Just what Marxists like the rainbow warrior AssClown Loser Marxist Tool want.

Vets dying in VA waiting rooms are just fine with those assholes as well.
